What's new

Semogue Fans, what else should I order?

OK Semogue Boar Fans, I need some good advice and suggestions.

I've already ordered the Semogue Owners Club brush as well as a Semogue 620, which haven't yet arrived.

What other suggestions might you have for another Boar that you feel is a "must have" brush from Semogue? (If I'm going to pay shipping from Portugal and wait for Customs to clear it, I may as well buy at least two.)

I am hoping (and what I desire) are brushes with good backbone and scrubbiness, for face lathering and bowl soap too, but unique from the other Semogues I ordered. Maybe this one should have a decent sized handle on it too, (maybe) Or maybe it shoud even be a Semogue Badger? Ideas?

What's the knot size on this 690 supposed to be?

Good question now. It's no longer listed on VintageScent's website (and I don't recall the specs myself.) I wonder why? Mine is already in transit to me though. it was reccomended to me in another thread if I recall, or possibly it was even in the Owners Club thread a few pages back.

I think I'm going to wind up keeping my SOC and my 1470 (cheapest brush). I actually prefer the 1470 to the 620. Same loft, but I like the hair better and since it's less dense it isn't as insanely scrubby.

The 620 is a good choice, and I'd also say try the 830. I really like the acrylic-handled Semogues.

Looks to me like the 830 and the 1305 that Dude mentioned a few replies below yours have the same knot in them, just different handles, acrylic versus painted wood. Premiem boar, 90% tops. (WHAT does that actually mean - 90% Tops?) I actually like them both. I was wondering if acrylic was slippery when wet?

I can't comment on the acrylic, but I wonder if the handles are the same size? if not then that is another factor to consider

No, they aren't the same but info is really sketchy about the handles. For this brush, I wouldn't mind a bigger handle and I believe that would be the 1305 wood. Of course, I wouldn't mind that nice acrylic either as it looks colorful. This is a home brush, so its really not a big deal but since I dont have an acrylic yet, maybe thats how I will lean when I decide and order tomorrow.

I do think the 620 is a definite and either of these others, the 830 or the 1305.

Er, according to this post, you have ordered the Semogue 620.

I just bit the bullet and ordered one, along with a Semogue 620 brush too. I wanted to try a Semogue and have been following this Owner's Club Brush thread. Since two people suggested the Semogue 620 for me, based upon my "wants" (in another thread I had posted) I figured I'd just get both brushes at one time. Where are these coming from and how long is the typical wait to the States? I didn't even pay attention to the Country.

You may want to check your invoice again, making sure you don't re-order the same brush on accident.

OOPS! You're RIGHT! I don't know where I got 690 from. I do have a 620 coming along with the Owners Club brush. Well that's good! Sorry about that everyone. My brushes should arrive in a week or so now and that 620 will be my travel brush then. I may order one or two more from Semogue anyway (after I get the initial brushes) or maybe I'll try another Company's Boar too. Who else out there makes decent quality Boar Brushes? Omega?

Is there any webshop other than Vintagscent.com for purchase Semogue brushes?

I really want one boar and an 830 acrylic handle.

I myself haven't seen (or found) any other source. in fact, I haven't even seen any website for Semogue, period. But, I have read many members praise this vendor, so that works good enough for me..

I too am eye-balling the 830 because of the handle. Once I get my first brushes from Semogue (VintageScent), I may have to get that one too. Also, get on VintageScents email list to be notified of new brushes or new limited editions.

Oh, I've just browsed vintagescent.com and realized the 830 is made of boar hair. The banded hair misguided me! :w00t:

I found my boar brush of choice!

"Tops" are hairs which reach the full heigh of the brushes described loft. A brush with 90% tops has 90% of the hairs at the loft's full length. In this regard, I believe more = better, as you get that "wall of hair" sensation and better performance pre-break-in. Post break-in, I imagine it's superior as well, with a feeling of more density on the business end of the brush.

JP,

Thanks for the link. That's a good one and I subscribed so I can follow Leon's posts especially.

I had a feeling that was the explanation about "tops" and I'd imagine aside from softness, it also impacts soap holding (and water holding) characteristics of the brush too.

Thanks for the explanation. I subscribed the topic you linked as well.

Just to answer an earlier question, acrylic is no more slippery than any other polyester resin handle I've used.
