Semogue Brush

Please allow me to ask a stupid question. What is a semogue? I know its a lathering brush. But what is it made of? And why do they seem so popular. Some background would be helpful. Thanks:confused:

They make an excellent boar brush. The 1305 is the best boar I have used so far. Very affordable to. Vintagescent.com is a great place to buy them.

Do they produce high quality badger brushes. And if so, how do they compare with the other major brands. Thanks

They do, theres only few handful of people that use them though that I know of.

I have seen a couple people that have and use the 750 $51.02

Also the 2015D $75.21, however with the recent post on the lacquer issues with the 2000 boar (Wood handle), I'm not sure I would drop the coin on it till the 2010 model.

I like this beauty here, but apparently nobody has pulled the trigger and bought one or posted about it since my thread died.

You can find more of the brushes here.

I use a Semogue 2020 Best Badger brush. Specs and pictures below. This is my first brush ever, so I have nothing to compare it too. But I must say, that for the price I paid I believe it to be a great value. I have been using it for about a week and a half now and I am enjoying it. It lathers quickly, it holds A LOT of water and the handle is comfortable based on the way I hold it. Once I get better with wet shaving, lathering and using the brush I will provide a more in depth review. But based on price paid, I cannot see anybody going wrong with this as a starter badger brush. If you already have a badger brush, then more and likely you will be looking at something other then the 2020 if your upgrading.

Only thing that has happen to the brush is the brand label is starting to come off. Its just a sticker on the handle. Wish the name would remain, but it appears as if it will become unknown brand in short order. Oh, and when it arrived it had a awful strong odor, many post have said this about other badger brushes. It is common since its animal hair, but it was a little more then I thought it would be. Strong smell almost like moth balls. I rinsed it a few times with shampoo, after about three shaves it was gone.

EDIT.... I should note, that these pictures are of a brand new out of box brush. I haven't took a picture of it since I started using it. I will do that soon. The brush hasn't changed much really.

I currently have three Semogue brushes and I really like them.
I've two of their silvertips, 2015HD and 730HD, these are the same
knots with different handles. The HD is high-density knot compared to
the norm. I feel the Semogue silvertips offer great value for money.

I also have a Semogue 2000 boar brush which I prefer to my Omega 48.
Once you break it in it's great for soaps and not as scratchy as you'd think
a boar would be.

I've also bought some of the 1520s and 1250s as presents so I could PIF
some kit to relatives and friends looking to get started.

Ahh, so that was the one you ordered, I remember telling you about their boars when you ordered.

Yes, thanks for the suggestion.. I decided on the Semogue best badger after Alfred from Fendrihan recommended it. For the price it seemed to be terrific value and without testing others I currently tend to agree.

I have touched a silver tip Edwin Jagger large brush and I must say its not as soft as that brush. But for a third of the price, I expect that.
