Semogue 620 Shedding?

I just received my 620 in the mail today and even before hitting water, it lost close to 20 hairs. I put it through it's usual de skunk ritual and it's maybe lost 2 or 3 since. Is it normal for a boar brush to shed like this? Should it be returned to IB?

It's normal for any brush to lose some hairs when it's new. It may lose a hair or two at a time for the first few weeks of use. If it continues, the vendor should be willing to replace it.

None of my boars have lost that much hair right out of the box, but they've all lost a few hairs over the initial break-in period. If you're worried, contact the vendor to see what they advise.

I recently received a SOC boar, 830 and 620. All of them have shed more than any badger brush I've had. The other thing I've noticed is that there were "trimmings" left in the knot. Kind of like when you go get your haircut at the barber and for the rest of the day you find little trimmed hairs falling out of your head on your shirt or in the sink. I see those until I take a shower and shampoo my hair. The same experience with these boar brushes. It's not shedding, you're just cleaning out the trimmings the first time. I've never experienced that with a badger brush though.

I wouldn't be concerned with a brand new brush shedding like that. Chances are pretty good those loose hairs were short and never got cemented into the knot base anyway. Once the brush is broke in, it will likely be ok. That is a good brush so I wouldn't be concerned.

+1 Give it a week or so and if it continues to shed, then contact Joseph at IB and i am sure he will remedy the situation. He is a fantastic individual to deal with.

Thanks guys. I'll be patient with it. I used it last night and other then the horrible smell, it was a great little brush.
