Semogue 2015 vs 2015HD

Having finally got my razor - Murker 34C - it's time to think about getting a decent brush. I've been driving myself bananas reading reviews, posts and mulling over all the brush porn to be had on the internet. The overwhelming choice is enough to drive a man to throw in the towel and grow a beard...

Anyway, after much um-ing and ah-ing I've decided on a silvertip, the Semogue 2015 (love the design of the handle and the Portuguese Oak!). However, for an extra 15 or so Euros there's also the 2015HD with a high(er) density knot.

Is there any advantage to be gained by going for this version rather than the regular 2015? If it's any help, I'm using Tabac soap (gotta love it!)

All thoughts, comments gratefully received. Thanks!

Baz

I have the 2015 'thin' and have had no problems at all with Kent and Tabac soaps, although I prefer something more scrubby for face lathering soaps. The brush is well made, except for the cheap sticker that fell off with first use. You can't go wrong with any of them.

I appreciate the replies, chaps. Yes, the sticker seems to be a bit short-lived from what I've read. Still, no big deal. I've ordered the HD version. Looking forward to trying it. Better be good as I don't plan on buying another brush for a while...

Thanks again,

Baz

Hey baz, any long-term experience? Im considering buying the 2015hd as well. Is it really dense? Do you may have any comparison to different brushes?
Thanks in advance,
p.

Make sure you get one of the new 2015s. Vintage Scent should have them. The old 2015 brushes with Portugese Oak handles had a very thick lacquer on the wood handle that would crack very easily if dropped or even banged against a lather mug. Once it cracks, it is very, very hard to repair.

Here is a pic of the new style handle that Vintage Scent has:

Also looks like they are running a sale so you may want to get it from them in any case.

The new handles are made out of a different wood and have an oiled finish, so there is no lacquer to bother with. If you do end up with the old style handle, I would return the brush without using it and order one with the new style. Either that or exchange it for a 730, which is the same brush but with a two tone acrylic handle.

I've never tried the HD version, but I really like knot in the regular 2015. It works very well with soaps and creams and is not a floppy brush. I also have a Rooney which is nice and a completely different type of brush but I wouldn't want to give up my 2015.
