Does anyone know if plating can be selectively repaired? I have a 7 O' Clock handle which had a bit of blackish material, and trying to get it off I ended up wearing away a little more of the plating.

I really like the handle color with the off-tone gold rings in the inset area, but I don't know if you can replate just areas (or cover the gold rings with wax and replate the handle as usual? Would that be nickel?).
