So i posted a review of my Merkur 39c after my first shave with it. Overall impression was it's a nice razor, didn't think it was anything special or better as far as closeness and whatnot over my other razors (HD 34c, DE89, Mergress XL) but did notice that it did have a smoother feel during the shave, as if it just sliced through the hairs much more effectively/efficiently than a non-slant. I also mentioned that this razor did not live up to it's reputation as a very aggressive beast that must be feared because it will bite you. I found this razor no more aggressive than my HD 34c.
So I figured, what the heck, next time i use the slant I am going to go all out. I used it just like I would use any of my other razors, and really went to town on my face. I went for the closest shave with tons of blade buffing, attention to detail, etc. Now if I do this with other razors, I usually hit the point of no return where I am guaranteed to get razor burn. I took it past this point with the slant, and the results were the absolute smoothest, closest, IRRITATION FREE shave I've had to date. I had an Astra SP blade loaded on it's second shave. My problem areas on and under my chin which are the coarsest, and my jawline, which is a sharp angle were all BBS with no irritation. This razor cuts so much smoother, I feel like it allows for a more detailed, refined shave because it causes less irritation than any other razor I've used. My fist shave with the 39c I was a bit cautious because of it's reputation, but the second shave I threw caution to the wind and just did what I normally do, and then some, and luckily it worked out.
I guess this razor just suits my technique really well. ANyone on the fence about wanting to try one of these should just do it. No guarantees that it will work for you, but there's only one way to find out.
