What's new

Second shave with a slant.

So i posted a review of my Merkur 39c after my first shave with it. Overall impression was it's a nice razor, didn't think it was anything special or better as far as closeness and whatnot over my other razors (HD 34c, DE89, Mergress XL) but did notice that it did have a smoother feel during the shave, as if it just sliced through the hairs much more effectively/efficiently than a non-slant. I also mentioned that this razor did not live up to it's reputation as a very aggressive beast that must be feared because it will bite you. I found this razor no more aggressive than my HD 34c.

So I figured, what the heck, next time i use the slant I am going to go all out. I used it just like I would use any of my other razors, and really went to town on my face. I went for the closest shave with tons of blade buffing, attention to detail, etc. Now if I do this with other razors, I usually hit the point of no return where I am guaranteed to get razor burn. I took it past this point with the slant, and the results were the absolute smoothest, closest, IRRITATION FREE shave I've had to date. I had an Astra SP blade loaded on it's second shave. My problem areas on and under my chin which are the coarsest, and my jawline, which is a sharp angle were all BBS with no irritation. This razor cuts so much smoother, I feel like it allows for a more detailed, refined shave because it causes less irritation than any other razor I've used. My fist shave with the 39c I was a bit cautious because of it's reputation, but the second shave I threw caution to the wind and just did what I normally do, and then some, and luckily it worked out.

I guess this razor just suits my technique really well. ANyone on the fence about wanting to try one of these should just do it. No guarantees that it will work for you, but there's only one way to find out.

I've been wanting to try a slant myself, just havent gotten around to it. Im going to have to just go ahead and try it, seeing as so many people are having such great results with it.

This is pretty much what I found out when I got the Slant, it's a very effective tool. That and it tends to make most any blade usable.

Slants are superb with just a little acclimatization. For those hesitant ones who have not yet experienced the Slant ... just do it!

Got a slant just to get the razor AD over with quicker, and had a poor first shave, mediocre second. No cuts, burn, etc. just nothing special. Two days ago I picked it up and just shaved, no special angle or finicking, just like any razor and got a two pass DFS, BBS with just a couple of touch ups. There is nothing to fear, just do it.

This morning I had my first shave with the 39C slant. It was a complete success. In fact, I think that this is the best shave I've ever had!

Only one little nick on my adam's apple, which was the result of carelessness. I was generally more cautious than usual, because I was rather awed by the razor's reputation. All I can say is, I have put off buying a Slant for too long. It's going to be my Sunday morning razor from here on.

Taylors of OBS Sandalwood lather, Wilkinson Sword Blade (new) and cold water seems to have worked a treat!

This morning I figured I'd go back to my Mergress XL and dial it up a bit because I am waiting for an R41 to arrive. I have been using the slant for a few days since receiving it. Once I got to my chin and under the bottom lip, which is where my whiskers are the coarsest, the Mergress XL just felt like it was tugging. Also tried the DE89 and same thing. Gave in, and picked up the 37c and it was much smoother with no tugging or pulling. I am a cold water shaver, and the 37c makes it even that much smoother, whcih can be tough sometimes when you have a few days of growth and have to get the razor started in an area of tough whiskers. The only thing I am concerned with now, is that the other razors may just become display pieces.
