SE Razor Shave Today

Well had my first SE razor shave today and "Me Likey!"

Purchased a 1912 model a few weeks ago and go some blades from Walgreen early this week. So this morning gave it a try. Taking the advise from B&B members I applied very little pressure and keep the razor aligned with my face.

The result was between a DFS and BBS from a two pass shave. Plus it was just plain cool using a 1912 model. Looks like SE shaving is going to be part of my rotation.

Now for the good news and bad news. The good news is I was amazed at how little or no pull from using a SE blade. These blades slice through my whiskers. Just amazing! The bad news is I got some nicks around the chin area but that was due to my technique. I'm sure I will learn and adjust.

All in all I like the process, results and it was fun.

Good for you! I used a gold ornate handled 1912 myself this morning with VDH soap, and got a very nice shave. They really are fun to use, aren't they?

My 1912 Gem is my razor for this week. I get some weepers around the chin sometimes, but overall get good shaves.

Congratulations!

I too recently tried a 1912 (Ever Ready) and I love it....the audible feedback is brilliant

Like you mine's now part of the rotation...I still love my vintage Gillettes too much to give them up completely.

Stick with your 1912. As you suspect, you just need a little more practice and you will not have the weepers any more. You should find that the best angle is when the blade retaining tab is just a little less than dragging on your face. You should be able to hear the razor cutting the whiskers.

In my opinion, there isn't a better shave to be had than with a 1912, with the possible exception of it's predecessor, the 1900/1901 Gem Jr. Bar Razor. These two razors represent the best of razor design. Interesting that they were designed around the turn of the last century.

Regards,
Tom
