Now half as wise
Can you get one "off the rack" or do they all have to be made to measure? Is that a waistcoat with it?

I've worn my kilt mostly at Civil War reenactments. I wear it with a Union major's double-breasted shell jacket.

I had the pleasure of wearing a Kilt (in Black Watch) at a friends wedding in Scotland. Made me wish I had heritage and a family pattern so I could have a Kilt of my own.

I saw a guy at the store a few weeks ago and he was wearing a kilt.

don't know if he was going to an event or anything, so he might have been wearing it as normal everyday clothes.

You know it's traditional to go "Commando" when you wear a kilt.

there is a song about that, a drunk scotsman, and a blue ribbon. :p

I have a utilikilt but I ahve put on a bit too much weight to wear it, I'm going to check out a store that has them on saturday. I need to do a bit more research on family history because I have two clans in my lineage. Depending on how much money I want to spend I might get one or two kilts. But I would want to get the whole kit with the coat, sporran, dirk...

I wear a 16th century style kilt for SCA. It is not sewn, it is one piece of fabric 8 yards long. I have to refold it every time I put it on. I actually have 4 different tartans including black watch. I love that style of kilt because it comes with its own blanket/hoodie.

By now, many political entities and geographic areas, even professions, have their own official kilt patterns. I'm sure there is at least one for Alberta, not to mention Canada. So it is certainly not necessary to have Scottish lineage in order to find a kilt pattern which applies to you.

Don't forget the Inverness cape, the hands down best rain gear for wearing with the kilt (or perhaps anywhere, for that matter).

Working in the fields in August with 95 degree heat and humidity almost there I have wished that kilts were acceptable wear in Appalachia.

Yeah, Though in my heart I am a British Columbian, after talking to my Aunt I come from Clans Ross, Matheson, and Smith. I am rather partial to Ross Hunting Modern and Ancient. I'll have to talk to some folks I know about seeing about getting one made maybe... we will see how good the tax return is this year and if the guys in the BL or Nib don't convince me to buy other stuff :p

Given that I live in Glasgow, and work in the drinks industry, it's not exactly surprising that I kilt up fairly regularly. Regularly enough that I own my own (and the other bits that go along with it). I'll see if I can drag up a picture.... If not, I'm out at 'The Ben' (http://www.bensoc.org.uk/events.php?events=237) Dinner next Thursday. I'll get someone to take a shot for me.

I wear it for any excuse. I've worn it to weddings, christenings and even the odd birthday party. I caused a minor accident in Manchester, when I was loading up the car prior to my niece's christening, when some kid rode his bike up the road, got distracted by 'that ****** bloke in a ******* skirt' (I heard him arguing with the guy whose car he rode into).

LADY to SCOTSMAN: Is anything worn beneath your kilt?
SCOTSMAN to LADY: No, ma'am; everything is in perfect working order.

I've thought about getting the gear but lack the opportunities to wear it. My tartan is Keith, which is a subtle shades of blue and green
