Scored a Cross

I stopped at a thrift store on the way home tonight and found this Cross fountain pen.
It is some sort of presentation pen from Ford that looks like it was never used so it was donated to the thrift store.
I havent had the chance to do any research on it but it looks like a nice set.

I'm thinking that the bottle of ink is worth the $10 that I spent on the set, couldn't really lose

Complete with instructions, converter and cartridges

Fairly certain this pen has never seen ink in it...

Any info on this set would be appreciated, thanks for looking
Kevin

Looks like a Century maybe even a Century II. Either way that 18k m nib is a great juicy writer. Ford has yearly Auction Quality awards and that set might have been part of the promotion. Pretty nifty find, congrats.

Thanks! I was just looking at the Cross website and I think it is a "Townsend"..the Century's fatter brother :001_smile

I'm a big fan of the Townsend. It's my daily writer. I also have nostalgic feelings for Cross as it is the only pen my father ever used and my wife grew up in Rhode Island so we used to visit the factory when they actually made the pens on site.

Good score!

Great score, Kevin! One pen I regret selling was a Townsend, partly because i sold it to a kid who ruined it, but mostly because it was a great writer.

Had it been an unused Ford pen like yours I'd surely have never sold it.

That's a great-looking pen, Kevin, and at an amazing price. I'm guessing there's a good amount of weight to it, and if it's balanced well, it should write incredibly smoothly. If you decide to load it up and use it, I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on the grip. I've had a chrome Cross BP for a few decades, and the only reason it didn't get more use was that it was difficult to keep a decent grip on it. More of an issue with a BP than a Fountain Pen, I know, but I'm just curious about your experience. Enjoy!
