Scent of Penhaligon's English Fern SS in relation to Trumper's Wild Fern cologne...

In comparing Penhaligon's English Fern and Trumper's Wild Fern cologne, the Trumper's slightly edged out the Pen's for me. The Pen's had a slightly harsh or bitter note that I didn't care for as much. However, I did not dislike the Pen's. I only preferred the Trumper's.

So ... I know this is probably tricky because cologne reacts differently on different people, but can anybody compare the scent of Trumper's Wild Fern cologne to Penhaligon's English Fern shaving soap? I'd be interested in a comparison to either the older or newer formulation, if there is even much of a difference in the scent of the two.

If there is a thread that addresses this question and I've missed it, then feel free to point me in that direction. I tried doing some searching and I couldn't really find anything addressing this question. But ... it is entirely possible I missed it.

I don't know how to describe it, but I know that EF cologne is not the same as the soap. I much prefered EF soap to EF cologne, or Trumper's Wild Fern.

Thanks for the input! I, too, recall reading someone say that they used the Trumper's Wild Fern bath soap as a shaving soap. I've been curious about trying that, but I haven't yet. Also, I double checked the basenotes reviews and I could not find much of anything helpful there. But thanks for the reminder!

I've been trying to decide what to do with a puck of vintage Yardley's SS that I picked up. While it performs like a dream, I'd like something with a scent to it and I've been very curious about the English Fern soap, which I'm fairly certain I'd like, but I'd hate to try to trade the Yardleys only to then find out that I don't like the English Fern.

Does anybody else have any input?
