Sandalwood A/S recommendations?

I really enjoy sandalwood scent! I've got my first Sandalwood shaving cream on the way(Proraso Red), but I can't decide what A/S to go with. I'm thinking a balm would be best since sandalwood is more of a winter scent to me.

Any thoughts on RazoRock's Nonno Michelino Sandalwood A/S Balm? I've already got some of Joe's sandalwood bar soap on the way with my Proraso order.

Ogallala Bay Rum & Sandalwood AS is a personal favorite. Even with the Bay Rum, I get much more Sandalwood out of it. Very nice!

Edwin Jagger Sandalwood!

I only tried the sample but I love it. However I find it quite expensive :/

Wonderful aftershave balm! I picked it up from The English Shaving Company for about $29 shipped here to the States. Not too bad, and it will probably last me a couple years...

Did you get free shipping? Seems like 21# should be close to 29usd + shipping?

RR Sandalwood is too soft for me. I love GFT Sandalwood skinfood, but my favorite is Saint Charles Shave. I prefer splashes, and theirs is not as sweet, a more austere sandalwood. Pairs great with AoS sandalwood soap. That is half of a perfect shave for me.

I don't like the RR balms in the white bottles, they are worth the money but not as good as the RR wax/balm line. The EJ line made by Muhle soap wise is terrible, the scents are fantastic sandalwood and sea buckthorn but the soaps are tough to lather, the balms are very good.

I have not tried them but the AOS sandalwood is supposed to use very high quality essential oils for their sandalwood version, if there is a balm it may be worth looking at.

Keep in mind that sandalwoods vary with shaving supplies -- not just in their use of EO or FO but in adding other scents as well. Are you looking specifically for something similar in scent to Proraso Red? What sandalwoods have you liked and what have you not liked?

DR Harris Sandalwood!
DRH is a great example. I really like it (it's the AS that I use) but if one is looking for straight sandalwood then it would probably be a poor choice.

Don't overlook prior discussions as well. Sandalwood is a fairly common topic here at B&B.

My Fav Sandalwood Balm is St. Charles Shave. Very reasonably priced. The A/S splash is also very nice. Long lasting scent on me.

I've never smelled Proraso Red, so I can't say if I'm looking for an A/S to match that.

The only sandalwoods I've had a chance to smell are Mystic Waters shaving soap and Gage For Men A/S balm. I like them both!

Excellent point, and why I usually use a neutral-scent cream if I'm going to be following up with DRH sandalwood splash, rather than attempt to blend it with another sandalwood. Sandalwood-scented grooming products are so disparate in their scents, a lot of times you wouldn't even know they're all supposed to smell like the same thing. For instance, DRH sandalwood splash smells nothing like the AOS sandalwood line, and to my nose neither one smells very much like pure sandalwood essential oil.

My favorite balms are probably QCS balms. I haven't tried a straight sandalwood from them (probably there is a Mysore Sandalwood balm, though). Their Esquire scent is sandalwood plus citrus, lasts longer than most balms. Really a great AS balm, and a great scent if you're not needing a pure sandalwood.

I like the T&H aftershave balms. They do a good job moisturizing the skin. They have a sandalwood scent. I think it is pretty good, but I know others who think it smells somewhat artificial. T&H has a great sampler pack you can try.
