Rust spots on my blade after 2nd shave

I shave every other day with a merkur 38M. Right now I'm using Israeli made Crystal Platinums. Usually, I remove the blade after each shave and place it on top of my Proraso Pre/Post jar to dry. However, last time I shaved, I just left it in the razor.

About 24 hours later, while brushing my teeth last night, I removed the blade from the razor on a whim. To my surprise, the razor had some faint brown spots and smudges along the edge. I could not remove them by running my finger nail over them or wiping it with toilet paper. Looked like some kind of oxidation. Is it uncommon to get such rapid onset of rust on a platinum coated blade?

In my experience that is not a common occurrence. Even here in humid Florida, I've not had a blade rusting problem. I always leave my blade in my razor between shaves. Now, mind you, I shave and keep my razors in our dressing area, not the same room as the shower. Unless there's something corrosive in your water, I don't know what else would be different.

I have never had this either, I usually change third shave and not seen it at that point. Wen I started DE shaving I tried to see how long I could get out of a blade. I can remember which blade it was (could have been a swede) and I think I got to six or seven days and found there was a minor rust spot.

Now if I am using a blade like a Feather which I usually take to about five shaves I dip the head in rubbing alcohol after shaving which seems to prevent any rust.

I believe I experienced the same thing with my Astra blades. I think the blobs of glue on the blades turn brown or react with the blade surface.

Do you set the razor down so that the blade guard is resting on the sink or counter? Water can puddle up underneath it when doing that (coming from inside the head of the razor), which leaves the blade wet long enough for rust to form.

Yes I do. So what's the best way to store a razor between shaves with a blade in it?
