Ruger Gunsite Scout Rifle?

I am not going to buy one (funds are devoted to AR parts now); but I was curious if there is any love for these rifles. Such an odd modern rifle; almost like a throw back to milsurplus. A bolt action carbine with a 10 round detachable round mag and a flash suppressor.

I guess I would rather have an AR10.

Wonder if Ruger or a third party is going to offer a bayonet as an add-on

Jeff Coopers scout rifle concept is very cool albeit unusual looking would like to see it in a semi auto version, but then I like short rifles.

It may be more fitting to tape your pocket knife on the end...

I like short barreled rifles as well; that's one reason I got an old Russian Mosin Nagant M44. Also why I looked at the Gun Site Scout. But am wondering if a carbine version of the Ruger M77 would be better. I guess if you want a 10 round cap.

I own one and love it. Seems to digest 150 gr loads best. I bought it mainly for hog hunting. Short and easy to carry through the palmetto bushes here in Florida

I like the GSR, it's short, handy, but accurate out to the distances I need. Something like the old Mauser cavalry carbines. I'm picking one up eventually primarily for hunting, and secondarily for use in states where normal rifles are frowned on.

I grew up on milsurp bolt actions, and a GSR with irons or an Aimpoint is still very quick for the first few rounds. Not my personal pick for all situations but it would take care of things if necessary, which was the original 'jack of all trades' idea of the Scout rifle.

That gun is on my short list. While not perfect, it is a concept rifle that those who understand it can appreciate its versatility to do everything that needs to be done. Not a spray and pray range toy, just a serious weapon that fills a certain niche.

I don't know which sub-variant model of Ruger 77 this rifle is but my brother-in-law got this little .308 not too long before the Scout Rifle version came out. It seemed like a better deal for a compact .308 to me. The photo was taken on its inaugural sighting in. After scope adjustment, he was shooting a nice series of 3-shot groups with the rifle at 200 yards that measured slightly under 2 inches.

Nice looking shooting rifle. Is that a 16.5 " barrel??
