Rooney-M&F-or Thater

I need a face lathering specialist. Im looking for soft tips with little or no scritch with this one. I'm leaning towards a Thater two band fan size 3. My question to you all is a second brush worth purchasing out of this group as a secondary diverse necessity aka a must try. PS I also have a Chubby 1 in super on the way if that cancels out anything let me know your opinions they are greatly appreciated. thank you

Are you looking at this brush? [http://www.straightrazordesigns.com...292-3-i-22mm-two-band-finest-silver-tip-bulb] I ask, because in my experience Thaters tend to loft their brushes high. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but at a 22/55 (really the 22 is likely to be a 24-25 where the knot comes out), that brush may be a little floppy. I LOVE Thater 2-bands, but since they are lofted so high they do not have the backbone of some other brushes (such as M&F) or density. However, this contributes to their awesome flow-through. If you want soft tips and great flow-through, then a Thater may be right up your alley.

With M&F, after they are broken in a bit, you get extremely soft tips and good backbone, but I wouldnt say they are scritchy. The Rooney heritage brushes have those gel-like tips and are VERY dense. This almost makes for a massage feeling, which is awesome --- however, I find them to be lather hogs (at least the current line --- Finest brushes are a completely different breed).

You would do well to pick up ANY of these brushes, IMO. I tend to favor the M&Fs and Thaters, though. I think they have the best mix of performance and feel. YMMV though.

Well I can say that both the Rooney 2-band Heritage is indeed super soft with no scritch from the one I had, and the Thater is really right up there with the Thater. My Stubby 1 was an excellent face latherer, but the hair was just too soft. It felt like gel on the face. My Plexi 3 Thater on the other hand I could feel some presence with the brush, but still super soft, but the flow was even better than the Rooney 2-band Heritage Stubby 1 I had. That and with a bit of a pointy knot it just wasn't for me, and I could pass them up. It all comes down to if it would be your liking and if you could pass it up. If I had to make a choice between the two I would take the Thater above the 2-band Heritage Rooney.

Can't lose with M&F or Rooney Heritage. Thater is borderline. If you get the 2-band, I say get the bulb shape and not the fan, since the loft needs help to be firm for face-lathering. The 3-band is also worth considering, and I do enjoy it for face-lathering, but mostly for soap sticks, soft soaps, or creams.

I have the Rooney Heritage Stubby 1XL and it is a champ at face lathering soaps or creams with no scritch. Despite not being scritchy at all, the brush is very dense and scrubby and will give your face a firm yet gentle massage every morning. I highly recommend it, although if you have bigger hands and/or like bigger brushes, try the 2XL or 3XL instead.

I love the Thaters but Vlad is right, for a face lather the bulb is the brush. One of my favorite face lathering brushes is my plexi 3 band bulb (49125). I have them in size 2,3 & 4 but the -2 is my goto for a face lather. The Rooney is fantastic as well but I think the Thater has better flow. Also be aware that Thater knots usually don't match published specs. You'll see in this post that my 4292-5 2-band fan was listed as 25X54 but was actually 28X52. This is a common variance.

I have thater 2 bands, 3 bands, rooney heritage 1XL, 2XL and some M&F blonde and I'm a face latherer only.
I prefer the M&F blonde, perfect mix of backbone, flow trough and scritchness, then Rooney and finally thater if you have the chance to have a short loft.

Any of the three mentioned brush brands would be great choices. I will agree with the others that the Thater will be your best bet if you want zero hint of scritch. Thater's are soft and like gentle white clouds blowing across your beard, you won't find a softer tipped brush anywhere.
