Robbed? How were you robbed? Sorry I don't understand.

It's a figure of speech, conveying frustration and seeking sympathy over the fact that he feels the sniping on e-bay is irritating and that with a normal human bidding routine he might have had a chance to bump it up and win.

Personally, I am one of those guys who just plugs in an amount that I am willing to pay and I check back after the auction is over.

Saves frustration, irritation and cash.

Try not to get emotionally invested in these things, it's just bad news.

He has the highest bid but in the last moment someone came along and placed a higher bid to 'steal' the item from him.

Sorry to hear. I get sniped all the time but there's always next time! Good luck.

I'm not sure how you were robbed when someone was willing to pay more for the razor than you were. To be honest, if you though you were really going to be the winning bidder on a W&B frameback for less than $26, then you need to rethink your ebay strategy.

Dude , I had the only bid which i posted in the last 30 seconds, he sniped in 10 seconds later . Who would think someone would be posting in the last 20 seconds. Honestly I have lost many auctions in the last month this way its almost as if they have a bot or something. My wife is astounded that someone is grabbing straight razors in the last 20 seconds , sometimes the last 5 seconds.

It IS a bot.
It's sniping software that people use to put in a last second high bid.
You can google it, there are several types out there.

Perhaps. Perhaps not. You have no idea how much more the sniper is willing to pay than you are, but there is a simple and fair way to find out- you have to put up your money to find out. Just as in a game of poker where you have to pay to see another card, the only way to know what the other bidder has in mind is to put your money at risk.

I'm with Phil on the "bid what you want and check at the end" philosophy. If you find that you're mad because you didn't get the item, then you didn't bid enough. If you feel that you overpaid, well you simply bid too much. In either case your opponent had nothing to do with the outcome other than his willingness to outbid you, or lack thereof.

They do have a Bot, sniper programs like Auction sentry let you bid at the last second.

Why not get one yourself if you are going to be doing a lot of bidding?

Exactly right! That is how I do it-ever since doing it that way the frustration and buyers remorse (from overbidding)of ebay have almost gone away. As you say, there is always another chance. Often items that are bid up will be followed in a week or so by other similar items appearing when the sellers are stimulated by the previous auction-since the only 2 lunatics willing to bid it up so far have shot their wad the subsequent ones are often much less!

I had it happen to me recently on a Boker Arbolito. I am so impressed with the last one i got that i would like to get more. The last few seconds he got me. It's a good thing the auctions are over at that point because i would do something stupid like pay an outrageous price just to get the sniper back lol. Ebay is frustrating most of the time. :thumbdown

Well sir as a human i say thats bullcrap.

But if you put in the bid 10 seconds after he did for another buck you wouldn't have a problem? I don't get it- you both bid under the same set of rules and he bid more. Where's the problem?

It's not about when the bids were made, rather about how much was bid.
