What's new

RIP Tom Clancy

I was saddened to hear about it as well. Clancy is pretty much my favorite author. Except for the last few books, I've read each of the Jack Ryan novels at least 3 times. I think I may now go for 4 times through. The military/political thriller genre has taken a big hit lately losing both Clancy and Vince Flynn.

Saw that.....much too young!

He was one of my favorites, right up there with Clive Cussler and James Rollins.

He will be missed.

This really sucks. I have a few of his books but I was waaay to young when I got them to really understand them. My knowledge of him came through his work in the gaming industry. If it wasn't for him, Ubisoft wouldn't be what it is now.

Red Storm Rising was a great book in its day (probably too dated now to have the same impact). I quit reading Clancy years ago because he got way too crotchety and political (same problem I'm having with Stephen King, but from the other side of the aisle). But Red Storm Rising and the first Jack Ryan book (the submarine book, can't remember the title) were both fantastic. RIP to a talented author.

A shame to be sure. Sixty six is too young for anyone, IMO. I need to make him my next few hardback book purchases, so he can have an immortal spot on my bookshelf ;)

He is one of the few authors I purchase in hardback.

Red Storm Rising is a fantastic book. It may be a little dated, but it is still a great read.

RIP
After he had a plane fly into the White House the political side got more overt so I stopped reading.
Been a long time since I read RSR or THFRO, must rectify soon.

In early 1988 Tom Clancy spent two weeks 'in the field' during a three week training exercise at Fort Hunter-Liggett researching his book 'Clear and Present Danger'. He shadowed our unit because he was friends with our Battalion Commander. The 7th Infantry Division(LIGHT) out of Fort Ord, Ca. I was impressed because he insisted on keeping his 'butt in the boonies', asked questions about every detail, ate the chow, slept in the mud..you get the point.

Check out his thanks to Ninja-Six in the Intro if you have the book.

RIP
