What's new

RIP: Ed Koch

Rest in piece no doubt. But as a mayor, not a favorite. When Giuliani goes, I'll be weeping. Native New Yorker 34 years long.

Maximilian.

One thing I remember about him was something he said in an interview while mayor. He said he voted for things as a congressman that he wouldn't vote for as mayor if the city couldn't afford it. Being able to be flexible is an important attribute.

Growing up in the tri-state area in the 80s, Koch is as iconic and lasting a figure as I can think of. A public figure I would have liked to have met.

I had the opportunity to speak to him on the radio in '95 about smoking in restaurants. He was one of a kind.

I had the pleasure of meeting him many years ago. He used to work out in Jack LaLane's located downtown in the Woolworth Building, where I worked. What surprised me was how tall he was and what a friendly person he was. He would joke with security personnel and everyone else.

May be rest in peace.
