Soon after I bought my Merkur Vision, I decided that I didn't need both the Vision and the Futur, especially since I got better results with the Vision. So I sold the Futur and that was that. But about a month ago, I started getting an itch to own the Futur again, so I bought one and it arrived yesterday.
So this morning I popped a Feather into it, turned the adjustment up to six and had at it. At the time, I though that the combination of the Feather blade and highest blade setting might not have been my smartest move.
Observations:
1. In 2-1/2 passes, I got a BBS shave with only a bit of irritation.
2. I still don't like the way the blade is loaded.
3. I think it is less forgiving regarding blade angle than the Vision. I got best results with a steep blade angle.
4. I think the Vision is better-balanced.
5. At the highest setting, it's about equal in aggressiveness to the FaTip - or maybe a bit more so.
6. I could probably dial the adjuster back to 4 and still get an excellent shave.
7. The large head did not prove to be an issue above my lip and in other difficult spots.
Conclusion: I am glad to have it back in my rotation.
