Review of the Above the Tie Titan H1 razor

This is to let members know that I posted my full review of the Titan H1 in the Reviews section. You can find it here.

That was a very good well thought out review. I would possibly vary point wise on a few things, but only by a point either way. We all have our idea of aggressiveness and as a R-41 (2011) flunky, I find the H1 right at the pinnacle of my acceptable aggressiveness. I would totally agree that a R41 veteran would/should have no problem with the H1. I am waiting on the medium base plate, it may be better for me.

i used my titan h1 today for the first time....woah...this was the first time i had to use my styptic pencil....twice.

i think this one might be too much for me....will probably put it up on BST shortly but will give it a few more tries.

I found I had to experiment with blades to get it to calm down a bit for me. Finally settled on the SI. Tried everything from a KAI down to a Crystal and several in between (yes Feather also). Still it's a 2 to 21/2 pass BBS shaver for me.

In my experience, the Titan didn't seem to be too picky about blade angle. Are you experienced with fairly aggressive razors and did you use feather light strokes? You don't have to give up quite yet. Give it another try when you aren't rushed and can attend to your technique. And don't forget a good prep!

past few weeks i have been using either a Gem open comb or the Cobra classic...i will try again tomorrow and ease up on the pressure.

Jim is spot on with his comments. I just got my Titan today and shaved with it for the first time. It's a really heavy razor - double the weight of an R41 and more than 50% heavier than my Slim. The only spots where I have irritation are where I wasn't careful to use no pressure at all. With the Titan, it's extremely important to let the weight of the razor do all the work. Hold it lightly and try to let it glide across your skin.

Excellent review and beautiful razor.

In my testing of the Darwin, I made a statement that it was the most blade neutral razor that I have ever used. Every blade seemed to become an excellent blade with longer life than in other razors because the razor was so well tuned. In other words, if you loaded the Darwin every day with a new different make of blade, and I did not know what blade was in the razor, I would not be able to or barely be able differentiate the shave pattern and results.

With the blades you have used, could you sense variability from blade to blade in terms of comparing the Titan to itself only, or did the all even out to the point of regardless of the blade, the shave was almost exactly the same?

+1 Solid advice! I think I'll go back and edit the review to stress this point. Thanks, Nick.

The variations between blades was detectable in terms of sharpness and smoothness, but where the R41 magnified the differences, the Titan minimized them.

Excellent! In many of the "highly aggressive" razors, the Darwin being the exception, it seems that each user really has to work hard to find the one or maybe two blades that will play nice with the razor. Many would give up that last degree of aggressiveness for a solid razor that can handle a wider range of quality blades without radically compromising the shave quality.

Excellent Review. As for me it is my Go To Razor for sure. I dont Really Think I will ever find a Razor that will out do this Titan, For me at this point and time the search is Over. Thank you above the Tie

What Razor Blade did you use? Im a guy with sensitive skin and cut easy, and a Coarse Beard, Also other razors i used were, Feather AS D-1, Weber, Redtip, EJ89, Aristocrat JR, Futur at 1.5 So if you see i used a lot of mind Razors, and even though the Titan is Aggressive it is very forgiving, So this is why i asked what blade did you use? Hope its not a Feather :eek:/

I use a Poilisilver and The Titan Rocks.......

Anyone know if Above the tie is selling Bottome Plates only? Since i already have the Titan dont need to Buy a 7 or 5 piece set :eek:/ Just looking to find out what the Medium Plate is like? I like the agressiveness of the H1 But just curios to try out the Medium plate, Unless Above The Tie Wants to send me one for Christmas ?

Yep, Stan is selling just the base plates: http://www.abovethetie.com/?store_item=483&sub=34

BTW: for my first shave with my new Titan, I used a Med Prep. Worked great. Much better results than I had with the same brand of blade in my Slim.

I edited the review to add a little on the importance of good prep and zero pressure, and to add a thank you to member Shaver Joe for use of his Titan photo and measurements.
