Retrying Past rejected blades

That title is kinda wordy but thats what I've been doing the last few weeks and with a couple of very surprising results.
I wasn't going to retry any of them although I had read it might be a good idea. Just seemed similar to marrying the same woman more than once after getting divorced. Or discovering Milk had soured, putting it back in the fridge so you could taste it again to see if it had gotten better. No seriously I once had a Captian who married the same woman 3 times!!:001_tt1:-True.
But I have to say its was a good idea for me. 2 brand of blades that were awfull 6 or 7 months ago for me were actually ok to pretty good this time. Go figure, I've been wet shaving a long time but only 8 months DE, Straight for the preceeding 35 or so years.
One of my kids had gotten me a power Fusion which I retried tonite in the shower on 2 days of growth, the results for me there had not changed. Hurt, pulled and a lousy shave. Finished it up at the sink the right way.

I was really surprised to discover that I can actually get an ok shave with Derby as well as Merkur. Think I'll stick with my IPs and Feathers tho.

Anybody else retried blades?

funny you mentioned this because I tried Derbys again this morning after abandoning them for Feathers for the past 7 months. I made it through one pass before reloading a Feather. I found that Derbys didn't pull or tug but they just didn't get as close as Feathers and they didn't slice the hairs as smoothly. Seemed like Derbys just had a harder time getting the job done. I felt like I would have needed an extra pass or two to achieive the same level of closeness as a Feather. Too bad though because Derbys can be had for almost 1/2 of what Feather's cost. Don't really see the point of trying Merkurs again. Great idea though. I plan on buying a sampler pack from WCS to retry the  Crystals and IPs.

I retried the Derbys and still didn't like them.
I retried the BICs and the WS which I previously didn't like, both did OK.
But they were OK for 2 shaves, so I'm not going to start using them because I get 3 shaves out of an IP and 4 out of a Feather.

Point of reference my blades get tested in a tech, a new, a british improved, a red tip, a 1948-50 USA aristorcat, a slim adjustable and a rocket HD. They are the lower "shave grade only" razors that I keep rotating between.

Yep I know what you mean, I might eventually use up what I have over the next 100 years or so, but nothing on the horizon so far to replace my IPs or Feathers. I was just saying they wern't as terrible as I initially thought.

I try blades in both my active razors (Tech and HD) and then try them again at a later point to make winnow down what I really want to settle on.

I have found that the longer I have been shaving, the sharper and smoother all blades get.

Even my straights, which didn't shave worth a damn when I first got them, have mysteriously improved several months later!

This strange phenomenon needs looking into! :001_smile

True, but some improve more than others though :D
So there is still The Good The Bad and The Ugly no matter what your experience.

If you doubt me I'll send some paint scrapers* for your GEM.

* sold as shaving blades and the brand is called LOOKs ;)

I tried some actual scrapers single edges once in my auto strop. No tugging or pulling...and actually did NOT remove any whiskers at all!
