Hey fellow Wet Shavers,
I have just recently in the past few months started to shave using a straight, with a Dovo being my first razor. Solid quality Solingen steel; a great beginners blade. I then started to frequent antique shops here in France and found a couple of straights in excellent condition that I intend to restore. Right now my camera is down so I will post photos of the two blades very shortly, but they are beautiful. No chips in the blade, no pitting, other than some small spots of rust they look as if they are almost brand new. The one I had no problem finding in my research. It is a #14 Jose Monserrat Pou Doble Temple Filarmonica, with all inscriptions and the design on the actual blade itself clearly visible. The scales are black, and in perfect condition, so I intend to keep them. The other blade purchased I am having a bit of trouble finding any information on, and perhaps someone can help. It is a #34 Sanson Solingen imprint on the shank, and on the actual blade there is a beautiful bright golden pattern reading "ORNOS SPECIAL." From what I know, the Filly's are great blades and are highly sought after, and the one I have found is in great condition. I have researched it throughly, and this will not be the first blade I attempt to restore. I intend to purchase a junker to test my skills to start. As for the "ORNOS SPECIAL", all I know of it is that it is of Solingen, so the blade is of excellent quality, again in excellent condition. I would like to do the restorations by hand, and with minimal power tools; possibly a dremel but that is as far as I can go considering my current living situation. If anyone could point me into the right direction for such methods it would be greatly appreciated. I would like to acquire a mirror finish, but also maintain the beautiful inscriptions on the blades, as they are both almost new looking. Again, pictures are coming soon. I would appreciate all help as I am a new member here, and really heard that this was THE wet shaving forum that you wanted to be a part of if any at all. Thanks for any of your time and knowledge, and thanks for having me as a new member.
