Rescued! This old girl gets a second chance

Cruzing the Bay and saw this forlorn Gillette with no bids. I put in a minimum bid, and a few days later was notified it was now mine. Here are some photos from the listing.

I took it out to the shop and fabricated a tooth from brass and fitted it to the stub. I then fixtured the razor and tooth to ready for silver soldering. After the torch work was done there was a lot of cleanup to remove excess silver and flux, and the final trimming of the tooth to length and shaping, sanding, polishing, etc. It took a couple of hours to complete. It will now need to be re-plated. Monetarily it was too much work to put into a common razor, but it makes you feel good knowing the tool would have a new life.
Some "after" photos.

Nice work on the repair! I don't think I've ever heard of anyone else successfully making and attaching a new tooth for a razor. Thanks for sharing your success.

That is excellent work my friend!
It's great to see a fine razor like this getting a new lease on life! They don't make these any more, and every year countless ones get tossed away by unknowing or uncaring people.
Stand by for the flood of "hey can you help me out, I've got a razor with a broken tooth..." PM's you're going to get!

Seriously, that went through my mind, but I've got a backup on the one with the broken tooth, so I won't bother Mitts at this time.:001_smile

Great work, though, congratulations! Interesting to know that it can be done.

Wow, nice metal work. Congratulations on a great restoration. It must be very satisfying to have done this work yourself.

Nice job, those are interesting little razors. I have had several replated but never replaced a tooth. I have a NEW with the fat handle that looks a little like that one and has a missing tooth. Not bad shape but I can't bring myself to just chuck it, I would give it to anyone that has the price of shipping which is about five bucks.

That is nice fabrication work. Congratulations. I am always impressed by people who fix things instead of tossing them. I need to work on my silver-solder skills. I may try something like this myself.
Thanks for the inspiration.
