Replacing the Tweezerman; Edwin Jagger Best Badger or New Forest 2201

I starting DE shaving a few months back with the all mighty Tweezerman by my side and unfortunately as stated by a lot of owners of the brush, the knot finally fell out.
Having supergluing it back in and working as good as gold, my wallet has been itching in purchasing a sub $50 brush for the longest time, which leads me to these two brushes.

As of now I bowl lather but see myself face lathering more and more and I have read that both brushes receive glowing reviews and fit the bill pretty well.
I’m just torn on which brush I should settle on, help ??

I've never tried the New Forest but the EJ is a good cream brush. It's a little floppy for soaps but it will work on the softer soaps well enough.

+1

The New Forest brush is still a relative unknown, but the EJ Best has a solid reputation and always gets great reviews. I have the C&E BBB equivalent that I bought two years ago as my first "upgrade" brush, and it was one of the best purchases I ever made. It served me well for a good

I don't use the C&E BBB anymore, since I've upgraded even further, but if I needed another brush to take traveling or something, I'd get the EJ Best in a heartbeat.

The EJ-BBB works fine with bowl soap. I have used it that way allot with no complaints. The New Forest does sound pretty good though based upon what others have written. I don't think you will go wrong with either choice.

Or for a little more money you can get this one too: ($75)

I've owned both and the EJ can feel floppy if they send you one with a tall loft. The 2201 is no where near floppy and is close to twice the density of the EJ brush.

The answer I was looking for, thanks !!

I began with a Tweezerman as well, and moved up to the EJ Best Badger Medium on my birthday thanks to the family.
I use both soaps and creams without problem, though I can say I wish I could get more soap on the brush more easily.
It depends on how hard the soap is really, as to how well I can load it up, though I've never had a problem getting a good lather no matter what I've used.

That being said however it is a world of difference from the Tweezerman, and I cannot recommend it strongly enough.
Other, more expensive ones would perhaps perform better, but at this price point it is a great brush.

EDIT: I wasn't well aware of the 2201 prior to my getting the EJ Best, but if I had the knowledge I have now (after researching), but two months ago prior to my acqusition of the EJ, I would probably had asked for the NF2201 instead. Sounds like a great brush, comparable with $70 range but costing closer to $40 USD.

The New Forest 2201 is IMHO, for my money, the best all rounder brush. I am one of those who likes to scuttle lather creams and soaps and this brush deals admirably with both mediums.

I find the EJ Med Silvertip probably lathers creams better (it is a lot more floppy though and can't handle soaps very well) and my Custom 2-Band finest deals well with soaps, but the 2201 is great with either.

There is likely to be more "New Forest" brushes released in September / October time by my understanding, and I for one will certainly be extending my range :thumbup1:

That said, i haven't tried the EJ BBB, which has very good write ups in the review section here. I guess though i like to support the "Corner Shop" where possible rather than the "Hypermarket" - especially when value for money and quality come together so well.

Enjoy your hunting. :wink2:

If there are any New Forest brushes left in stock, grab one! They could be the new champion in the $40 price range. Many members rate them very highly.

If there aren't any left, the EJ Medium in Best is also another great brush in that price range.

If the New Forest is anything like the goldennib 2 band finest, it is a clear winner...by a looooong shot!

The EJ BBB is quite floppy and compared to 2 band finest tips, the EJ is very scritchy whereas the 2 band finest is much, much softer on the face whilst giving fantastic backbone. Given the New Forest is 22mm knot, it will be fine for soaps and creams.

If you didn't glue in the old knot, you could have purchased a 2 band finest from the golden nib for about $30.

Disclaimer: I am assuming the New Forest knot is similar to the goldennib knot to make my comparisons.
