Red Tip compared to Fatboy

To all you guys that possess both the Red Tip and the Fatboy. What setting on the Fatboy will match the setting of a Red Tip?

I read a chart that someone made measuring blade exposure. If I remember correctly, a red tip was a 3 on the adjustables.

I used my red tip a week ago and it seemed so weak. I generally use an adjustable on the 7 setting.

I remember when i first got the red tip, I was scared to use it because it was too aggressive lol.

I'd say roughly a 4 or 5. Red tips are said to be aggressive, but I think they're nice, smooth shavers.

Would anyone venture a guess as to how the Fat Boy settings fall relative to the settings of a Mergress or Futur?

I use both the Mergress and Futur at about 2.5 - 3.. have a Fat Boy on the way but have never used one...

I have both the Fatboy (Executive) and Red-Tip.. although it's possible to match the blade gap by adjusting the Fatboy, this doesn't translate into an equivalent shave experience. If you want to try a Red-Tip, you're better off just snagging one.. they're still relatively inexpensive.

You could probably whack it wide open. 3 on the merkurs is generally several orders higher than on the gillettes. :p

Try it on 5 and see how mild it is, then go from there. There isn't nearly as much range in the adjustment as on a merkur, so a 9 isn't terribly more aggressive.

Perfect.. thanks!

Really looking forward to the Fat Boy...

Blade gap is only part of what makes a razor aggressive, and is in my opinion, less of a factor than exposure.

The red tip might be a 3 for blade gap, but it shaves like a 5 because of a difference in other factors.

The same chart says a rocket is milder than a tech, and that's just ridiculous.

I just went back and forth with my Red Tip and my FatBoy. I had dialed up the FatBoy to six and found it a good bit more aggressive than the Red Tip. I started with three and found it not as aggressive. Four is about the same.

I Felt the same after using my straights for a few months and then went to my DE red tip for fun...it was kids games!

If I understand the chart correctly, it's the British red tip that's a match for a Fat Boy set on 5. The U.S. red tip is a match for the Fat Boy set on 3.
