Recommendation for synthetic travel brush?

Hi Guys,

I'm looking for a recommendation for a good travel brush. I've come to prefer synthetic brushes, and I think they're well suited for travel (just considering drying times).

I currently have a Muhle (medium-sized, not sure which one exactly), which I enjoy very much.

So what should I look for? Another Muhle? The special travel brush or a normal one plus a Simpson tube or something? Or something entirely different?

Thanks!

Hi, I love my small handled 24mm Yaqi brush bought on Aliexpress.

I also purchased two airtight aluminium tubes. The 120mm takes the brush comfortably and the smaller one, you can squash/shape an Arko stick into the lid as a soap container.

My favorite travel brush (I even use it for non travel shaves often) is the 24mm Yaqi Sagrada Familia. Nice and soft, perfect lathers every time, holds enough for 4-5 passes, and dries quickly. Fits easily in my dopp bag.

Definitely with you on that. I have the same brush and posted a similar comment on this thread. Found a nice travel tube for it as well. :)

As I discovered that I bought my daily Muehle brush over 5 years ago, I decided that it will now serve as my travel brush (got myself a cheap plastic tube to store it in) and treated myself to a new medium-sized Muehle.

Yes, it's a bit better than the 5-year-old one, but not much. Those things really hold up well with time.

How about a cashmere and a pill bottle? Very similar characteristics to your muhle stf for not alot of money.

Over the past few years I've tried quite a few for travel and they all work just fine. Take any one you like. I currently use an EVO.

A synthetic is more travel friendly as a natural hair brush. No soaking, quick lather, quick drying, less chance of funk.

just a matter of a knot to face lather or to paint or both.

there are plenty of plastic travel tubes fitting existing brushes

for a brush I would first go for what you like in a handle shape.

unless you have to travel ultralight then an Alluminium handle/tube or plastic one wins.

if you have butter fingers or are very rough on your gear also think twice.
Alluminium can dent and if you have a threaded brush that might give issues.

plastic/acrylic? Hnmmmm I dropped a grooming co in Cambodia on my shower floor and ended up with a shattered handle, sharp fragments everywhere (white on white no glasss fun) and a knot which I could barely use for the remaining weeks.

more nylon or rubbery should handle all abuse but ugly

metal if I drop my Yaqi heavy metal it might break tiles.

someone made a cork handle that could be ideal, gripy, light, should handle a drop or two

Otoh if you have an old no much use brush give it a tube and be done with it.

I have the Sagrada Familia handle, but I re-knotted it with the PAA Roswell Grey Hybrid Synthetic as I didn't like the Yaqi Tuxedo knot. It's a great travel brush that also gets used quite often at home.
