Recommendation for good starter set?

I'm interested in straight shaving. Have never done it before so was wondering if anyone had a recommendation for a good starter set, razor and strop. Do I need a honing stone too?

Thanks.

Somebody here will be able to recommend specifics but you often see nice beginner sets come up on the BST (Buy/Sell/Trade) forum. There was just one yesterday I think...

Don't really have to buy the razor and strop from the same source. They won't match no matter what.

Check out the links in my sig for more info about begging SR shaving & honing. In short though, pasted strop is better than a hone. Unless you really want to learn honing. And I mean *really want to*. IMHO.

There is a whole section on the web site here for getting started. In my personal experience, you will need 2 things.

1) a professionally honed razor (Dovo is great for starters)
2) a 2 sided paddle strop with one side pasted with Chromium Oxide. If you have the money a 4 sided paddle strop that has pastes on 3 side would be a bit better.

Aside from shave creams, aftershaves and whatnot, that's it. You will be set for a looooong time. I would go to one of the top shelf distributors and get a new razor honed and ready to shave. There are a range of models to suit any price point.
