What's new

Recommend something in the same family as Penhaligon's English Fern?

doesn't have to be the "closest" scent, but something in the same range. love this EF, but only bought a small sample.

thanks for any suggestions!

Trumper's wild fern is really close, almost can't tell the difference.

since they are straight original fougeres any original type fougere should smell close, houbigant fougere royale (the original fougere), probably Jicky. then they start branching out with added ingredients like with Azzaro pour Homme, Fahrenheit by Dior, Dolce & Gabanna pour homme, Gucci pour Homme, Brut, Rive Gauche, they're the same basic fougere but twisted with additional scents to create new perfumes.

Crown Fougere - if you can find it, get it!! I think it is now discontinued, but you can find it from time to time, left over stock.

I have not tried Pen's EF but my recommendation would be to just get EF. If you love it you are probably money ahead to just save up and buy a bottle of it. I know it's pricier than many other fragrances, but bottles of fragrance will last what will seem like forever. Just my opinion. You may be able to find something similar at about a third or half the price, but you might want to ask the question, do you want something kind of like EF.... or do you want EF. Anyway.... my two cents..... I'll stop.

I think the advice to just go with EF is probably right. The 50 ml bottle is not cheap, but it's also not outlandish as these things go, and it will last a long time.

Knize Forest. Similar but not so similar as to make owning both redundant.

Interesting. I wouldn't have thought of that one. It's a good scent, but I never placed it in the same category as EF. EF is brighter, while Knize Forest has a sort of snow-covered forest vibe.
