Recommend me a Saville Row FACE-LATHER-MACHINE !

Hey B&B BrushHeads :biggrin1:

Can you please recommend me a Saville Row brush, that will work great for face lathering ?

My preferences:

* I like a scrubby exfoliating brush for face lathering sometimes.....
* I like a soft silky floppy brush for face lathering other times......
* I ONLY use shaving creams & croaps - NOT soaps (they dry out my skin)
* I prefer brush knots in 3-Band Super/Silvertip from 22mm-26mm and brush knots in 2-Band Super/Silvertip from 24mm-30mm
* I enjoy a medium to big bloom, but not an ultra huge bloom in a brush
* I'm a rookie brush collector - only a couple of months in, and my collections grows fast at the moment, but will stop up and breathe once I reach 25-30 brushes of high quality in my collection.
* I don't own a boar brush yet, but have a Semogue LE2011 FB2 on my 'perhaps' list. Prefer high quality badgers to boar - and since I don't use shaving soap, why bo(ar)ther with a boar ?

Where to buy it - preferably in Europe, if not then in US ? (link to shop, please)

Thanks !

QED is the only place that sells them afaik. Go with a SR silvertip in the knot and handle that appeal to you. The first 2 digits are the handle style and the last 2 are the knot size. I prefer the 3118, but that sounds too small for what you are looking to get.

Forget the scrubby part - they're not scrubby. But they have more than ample backbone for making copious amounts of lather out of anything. These brushes will lather steel.

Don't be tempted to get a smaller brush. Start with the 24mm - it has the best density/size ratio unless you go bigger; over 26mm may be too big for you though. The 24mm are a perfect medium bloom.

PM me if you talk yourself out of one of these and I will get you back on track.

Are those brushes made by Thater? They look very similar.

Only Charles and the actual manufacturer know, everything else is just speculation. For a while everyone thought they were Shavemac. I think they look German made.

That's not true. Charles actually confided in me about who makes them for him. But I won't tell.

I also know who You're So Vain was written about.

That was a better way of saying what I really think. Clean, to the point.

I wanted to give you options - it's my loosy goosy nature. Listen to Jeremy. He knows of what he speaks.

Ha, the reason I was able to get to the point was because you already covered the bases.

Well shoot. Allow me to amend my original statement, only Charles, folks he tells, and the manufacturer

Oh no. I can't let this get started. I was just having fun with you.

I have put the question to him directly though and he's quite polished at sidestepping the matter. It's like watching a CNN interview.

The 3118 knot is superb for face lathering, probably my favorite knot.

I see all 3 suggestions basically share same knot size and hair type, so I will go with my favorite handle type, if you don't mind so :biggrin1:

3824 face lathers magnificently with ample back-bone and flow-through. Bowl lathers even better!

If I had to buy again I would PERSONALLY go a smaller knot: many others prefer a larger knot - I'm being super-critical here as it's a really great brush but my SBAD is making my fingers type this to justify a smaller knot purchase...

I think Jeremy and I can live with that. :a17: It is the most classic shape after all. And the dimensions of 38/50 on the handle are perfect for me too in that shape. Stay with the 24mm though, if you like medium or even medium-large knots - I really don't think you will regret it.

Savile Row = Best value for high end brushes. That the 3824 is "only" $115 or so blows my mind, and to echo everyone else in this thread about that brush, hubba hubba. :001_wub:

I have the 22 mm 3722. It has better density than my Shavemac Silvertip. The hair grade and the softness are about the same. The brush is superb.
