Recommend an Aftershave for me

I have been so busy with the other ADs that I have been neglecting aftershaves. I need some recommendations.

I don't like splashes so far, but really only have the one (see below). I need something that will moisturize well, I have fairly dry skin and it gets dry and cold here in the winter (coming soon). I sometimes get a lot of irritation on my neck and what I have sometimes makes it worse.

Here's what I use now for post shave treatments, not all at once of course:

Skin Bracer Blue splash
Nivea Balm
Barbasol Pacific Rush
generic Witch Hazel
Proraso Pre/Post
generic Alum Block

I have a sample of the Edwin Jagger Aloe Vera AS Lotion and I love it. Love the smell, it makes my face nice and soft, no burning, seems like a good moisturizer, seems to help if my neck is irritated. I will probably pick some of that up unless somebody has a better recommendation. Of all the products I've tried this and Mr Taylor's SC are my two favorite smells so far in case that helps with determining my tastes.

I have spent too much on razors and soaps, so I don't want to spend too much. Would like something good under $25 if possible, might go a tad higher if it will last a long time. I am not against a cheap AS either, my favorite of what I currently have is the Barbasol PR.

Thanks for reading the long, somewhat rambling post (it's been a stressful day at work), and thanks for any advice or recommendations you have.

As a fellow Midwesterner, I second your EJ preference, though I like the Sea Buckthorn better than the Aloe Vera. Obviously, most any balm will be better than a splash from the coming winter. I think Castle Forbes also offers non-alcohol balms, though they cost more than $25.

Your post has Castle Forbes written all over it. Try the travel sizes to see if you like it.

Olivias is nice too if you want a specific natural scent. I got mine in sandalwood and one in Citrus. It's milky, but still has lots of aloe. It's a Vit E aloe mix. It's impossible to beat in the winter. Artisan, but good.

Since you said 25 bucks only, I'll throw SMN emulsion in there just to throw a wrench in your plan.:biggrin1: Yeah, look it up. http://www.leesrazors.com/products/Santa-Maria-Novella-Emulsione-Analcolica.html

Any Speick Balm fans out there?

The CO Bigelow 1200 is pretty cheap on the bay. Thinking about starting with that.

The CF is a little more than I want to spend at this point. The SMN emulsion is definitely more than I want to spend.

I strongly recommend Santa Maria Novella aftershave. It really is amazing (see reviews). It contains olive oil and castor oil, amongst a lot of other good things. I have the melograno scent which is good; a quiet, subtle, manly aroma that no-one will recognise. When you rub the liquid between your palms you really feel the moisturising effects.

Edit.

I wrote and posted this then saw your price range. SMN will be above your range (here in NZ the AS cost me $100) but I'm now looking at my other ASes and contemplating putting them on BST - I've found the AS for me!

I'm assuming you're using the Barbasol Pacific Rush lotion/splash. If so, there is a new (new to me and it says new on the bottle) Barbasol Pacific Rush balm out too. I picked them both up for the first time last week and have been using them in conjunction. I am impressed and see why the guys here like the lotion. With both, I get the sizzle, the cooling and the moisturizing. My face is not tacky after a very short time. Good stuff.

I actually have the balm, I'm not a fan of splashes. Probably just haven't tried the right one. I don't mind a little sting, but when it burns like crazy and makes my face red, not for me.

Yep, I have the Speick Balm and it's good stuff. Not strongly scented, just an all around safe balm product. i quite like it. It's very close in formulation to the home made Olivia's I mentioned.

I like EJ Aloe AS too, I've received sample of it. But I find that for winter I like Institut Karite ASB, lots of shea butter and it's great for razor burn, feels great on skin, is slightly oily which sounds like it's perfect for your skin.

For winter and summer I use Pre de Provence ASB, I really like how it dries out fast and doesn't have oily residue, the face feels so soft and smooth after it. I guess it's thanks to high shea butter content too.

Also my skin is a mix or dry/normal and oily in patches. Both of this products work great on my whole face (I use them as moisterisers, saves time applying it to whole face). As you have noticed I like products with shea butter, they are really good for skin.

You might also want to go to L'occitane store and get sample of their Cade ASB. I like the scent, it's shea butter based, but it's too oily for me.

This recommendation is killing me,I wish I would never have read this.
I wonder how long I can hold off from purchasing, but I will purchase eventually.

Musgo Real.
it's one of the few splashes I've tried that really feels moisturizing to my skin. It does a good job of killing irritation and razor burn, and has an amazing scent that sticks around for a while. Typically about $20 / 100 ml bottle.

Let me take a moment to say that Speick splash is hands down the best AS I've ever used. Ever. Having gotten a bottle it's practically all I use now.

If you're irritation prone like me, Origins fire fighter and Nancy Boy cooling gel are highly effective, have a light smell and feel great.

Brut asb is fantastic if you like the smell of Brut...its alcohol free and has aloe and shea butter...about $5 for a tube.

Since you like the TOBS Mr. Taylor's SC, you should like the AS.

I haven't tried the SC, so I can't compare scents, but I love the Mr. Taylor's AS.

I mainly use balms as well. I've got dry skin and it really helps me out in that department...

As well as the 2 mentioned below, I'll add that I really like Gentlemen's Best After Shave Milk. It's a little runnier than a true balm, but still works great. It's smells terrific IMO and isn't sticky. The Signature Series is probably my favorite scent, but I also like the others. The Patchouli is nice, not quite what you expect in an aftershave scent, but I like it.

Yep, it's really great stuff. The travel sizes are reasonably priced, but the full size bottles are a little too rich for my money.

I really like the Speick balm. It's got a nice subtle scent that doesn't overpower. It's not very sticky feeling either...

If you can spring the $15 or so, give the CF a shot.
