Ready to make a small upgrade -- Recommend a brush under $50?

So I've had two brushes so far --
1. A drugstore boar bristle brush: got me started OK.
2. A tweezerman badger brush (http://tinyurl.com/7jtebdy): got it for about $15 on Amazon. Been using it 18 months. Nicely broken in, but starting to show its deficiencies.

I'm ready for an upgrade, I think.

Can y'all recommend a nice brush, which would be a worthwhile upgrade from the tweezerman, that I could obtain for under $50? (That includes shipping/tax. I do have Amazon Prime, though)

I guess I'm looking for something softer than the tweezerman, which also does a better job lathering. (Isn't that really the whole point?)
I don't really care if it's natural or synthetic, so long as it's an upgrade.

So, thoughts?

You can get a nice Simpsons brush in best badger at WCS shipped to your door for under $55 with 10% off using BANDB as discount code.
I'd recommend:
Commodore
Case
Special in Best
Berkeley
A lot of brush for the money.

Semogue boar brush. I think these are very good brushes. You can get them for ~$25 shipped.

Your search is over. Best value for the dollar ($29 Amazon Prime free shipping) on the planet. NOT the BEST BRUSH on the planet, the best VALUE for the price. Your mileage won't vary, get one! :wink2:

I asked a similar question recently and people recommended the Berkeley in Best. They weren't wrong. Awesome brush and a huge step up from what I was using before.

I just got a whipped dog silvertip (www.whippeddog.com) for the SO to replace his tweezerman. for $20, you get a great knot and you can figure out what size/loft you really want before you go for the nicer brush.

+1. Whippeddog Silvertip is a great, inexpensive brush. Gives you a good idea of what a higher quality of badger feels like without destroying your wallet.

I was going to recommend one of the Simpsons, but it's starting to sound like going the Whipped Dog route would be the best, most cost-efficient way to go. Simpson still can't be beat, quality-wise though; I doubt anyone would argue with that. If you *DO* decide to go with the Simpson, WCS is going to be the way to go, using the discount code. Of course you can always go with Rudy Vey..... I got my custom finest for $60, and the man is pure class all the way.
