Get an Edwin Jagger, they have many handle options or you can even purchase a separate handle for it (UFO, Griest Shaving...). Gillette Techs are similar to the HD as well and you can get different handles for that one too. I enjoy the versatility of the 3-piece razors.
+1 on swapping out the handle. Pretty easy to find, but make sure it fits your Merkur.
The Merkur 23C has a longer handle. Which Merkur do you have?
If you are enjoying the HD 34c, they make that with a longer handle as model 38c.
If you like the 34c, then try the 38c or 23c. An EJ 89 is a great 3 piece choice that can accomoodate alternate handles.
love my 38c - used it last week for the first time in a couple of months and had some of the best two pass shaves I've had for a long time!
