Razor Burn. what is it?

Just curious to what everyones definition of razor burn is.

I know for most it is the un-sightly red bumps some get after a shave, sometimes with or without ingrown hairs.

Now after I shave, especially dependent upon what I use post shave, my face def. burns, and can be red for an hr or two post shave, however I do not get bumps ingrown hairs etc... is this razor burn? I am thinking not, but wouldn't mind some insight.

That's what it is. Some people have different reactions. Some might get the bumps, redness or combination of the two and of course the burning. Early on in my DE shaving experience I would get burned from the ATG passes but I've learned better technique and now it does not happen. Witch hazel applied immediately after shaving followed by the AS splash or balm works wonders too. The ingrown hairs are in a league of their own. YMMV

Damn looks like I'm getting it then. I know I need to use a moisturizer post shave. My only problem is I like the smell of my clubman and aqua velva. I have even tried to use a moisturizer unscented and the combo burns worse. I have some razorock wax on the way. Hope it helps.

I'll go along with the redness and that feeling of a really bad sunburn. That feeling for me would seem to last for 2 to 3 hours. Once I got the pressure thing down, that took care of my feeling of razor burn. Never had the bumps, but I'd get the occasional nick or cut though.

to me, razor burn feels like a heat rash. if I get razor burn it is rarely on the face, usually on the neck and that is why I am content with SAS on the neck and try for DFS+ on the face.

I go for bbs most days. I use straights only. Might use de once a month in a pinch. I get the razor burn sometimes. I use alum(keep in fridge) nivea after shave balm(in fridge also) and if I get it which is not often(usually when Im hung over and not paying attention I grind up a couple aspirins and make a light paste. Put on with cotton ball. Works very well for me.

There's no reason that you can't still use your Clubman AS splash and a nice restorative moisturizing balm.

I like the scent of original Clubman and Clubman Bay Rum and a lot of the old Barbershop scents. Yet, I always rub in some of the unrefined shea butter that Celestino referred to. Before usb, I used to rub in some Nivea Sensitive balm.

Regarding razor burn - time, paying attention to beard direction, proper blade angle and pressure will fix that. We've all been there.

It's bad. Don't get it on you! I occasionally get sloppy, quick and use too much pressure - I get the burn, but no red bumps. Bad razor angle can help promote the burn, but most people figure that out fairly quickly.

I use the alum block on the affected area - then moisturizer.

Happens to me when I am trying some new blades that just don't agree with my skin. Almost like it removes the top layer love skin in some places rather than hair. For veterans (or newbies), are there certain blades that you just "get" razor burn from, or would you just say that its technique (angle, pressure, hair growth) related? Also, what are the best balms/lotions to rid it? (So far I see Nivea and Alum, which don't really relieve quickly)

Try using NIVEA sensative balm after you splah on your clubman AS.

A burning feeling usually accompanied by redness and sensitivity to the touch. For me, usually caused by too much pressure or too many passes over the same area in a futile attempt at perfection
