Good morning everyone!
I have for sale today a 1927 William B. Kerr/Gorham sterling silver travel razor (I have also seen these called bottle razors).
Manufactured in New Jersey, the New Improved head (which is correct for a 1927 razor) sits atop an art deco sterling silver body. Total weight of the piece is 52.52 grams, of which 20.52 grams are the sterling body.
William B. Kerr was founded in New Jersey in 1855 and eventually became leaders in the art nouveau trend in silverware. In addition to their own razors, i have read that they also produced the Tiffany Gillette razors in the '20s.
The Kerr logo was a 'fasces' (an axe with a bundle of sticks around the handle...see photo). This is clearly marked on this razor.
Kerr was purchased by Gorham in 1927. The base plate of this razor (serial number 820846) indicates production year of 1927; but whether this razor was marketed as a Kerr or Gorham remains unknown. The Mr. Razor site has a similar model listed as a "Sterling Silver Traveler".
I've owned this piece for almost 20 years......and i think i have seen maybe 3 other examples of these beautiful razors.
But, it's time to move it on to another collection.
I'm offering this unique piece of American shaving for sale at $400, which includes tracked shipping via EMS worldwide.
PayPal only, please
Have a great Labor Day!
