What's new

RAD sets on quickly!

Hello all,

I am fairly new to the forum and have yet to shave with a DE razor. I have a Shaving Factory DE being sent to me that I won in a PIF, but already I have a list of about 6 razors (Gillette and Merkur) that I want to get to try out. I guess I'm curious to try a couple diferent brands, adjustable and fixed, light and heavy, to see what I like. This is normal right?

I've been checking out antique stores to see what I can find (no luck yet), and I have asked my Grandmas to see if my Grandpas left anything behind.

I'm obsessed with looking for vintage razors. Hopefully it will subside when I get my razor and I start shaving with it, but I doubt it.

I'm also looking for straight razors. After I get the hang of the DE, I'd like to try my hand at straight.

Yes it does, especially when you're new to DE shaving. At least it did with me, but now its calmed down. I'm all set razor and brush wise, but who knows what AD will pop up next? :001_tongu

I was doing fine in the razor department until I tried the NEW I've been putting off using for months now. Now I'm shopping around for a NEW with a different handle, and an Old Type...

It never completely wears off...

There is logic behind your reasons for buying razors.

When your reasons include "I don't have that date code yet", or "That's too good of a deal to pass up", then you can start worrying.

Well, I guess I can start worrying, because I just bought a set that was just to good a deal to pass up.:biggrin1:

I've found it makes a difference if you want collector grade razors or user grade razors.
About half I would say are collectible ones, but if I'm going to use them then I really don't care if they are ugly.
My tech is a horrid beast, but it shaves like a dream.
Like you, I had a long list of razors to try. I wasn't willing to pay the price for ones in pristine condition. So, with user grade beasts people try them out, then they hit the BST and off they go on another adventure.

Now I'm at the stage where I'd like the collectible ones. In cases all pretty and shiny. But, I need to offload the user grade ones first.

I love AD's. I really do.

RAD can be in remission for periods of time.....but I'm not sure it has ever been clinically demonstrated as ever being cured......LOL

Welcome to RAD! Just be sure to give each razor a couple weeks fair shake before moving on to the next. That'll help (a little ).

I found myself wanting to do the same thing when I was just getting started last year. Tis tough but for the most part I was able to stick with one razor for a lil while in order to be sure that I was comfortable with it.

After sticking with a Gillette SS for a while I found that my RAD desires had been averted. Luckily I've only gone as far as two Gillette SS, 1 Gillette Tech (which I love), and now one Gillette 40's SS that I just put on order today.

Will prolly be set with razors now...but as others have commented who knows what AD comes next.

I'm up to around 18 now. Just won my first real collectable - a Senator - yesterday. Now I'm beginning to think about "thinning the herd". I wonder what I could get for a good cased Fatboy.....

I thought RAD was over when I settled in with the DE89L. Then the Pils caught my eye. And, shortly, I'm off to the Post Office to pick up my new Feather Stainless.

It never really ends, does it?
