RAD results

I found these razors over the weekend. Can someone tell me what I have and what they might be worth? (What I Paid) From left to right..

The travel razor came in this metal box. The head is flawless, but the handle was dirty and has some plating missing where the contact surfaces screw together. ($20.00)

The TTO razor in the middle works very smooth and closes tight, but has some minor plating missing below the doors. It came in the original box that is in very poor condition, with no #s. It needs more cleaning.($32.00)

The razor on right works smooth, closes tight, but has minor plating below the doors. Adjustment knob works very well. The black portion below razor head is plastic. #s are F 3 stamped. It also needs more cleaning. ($12.00)

Both TTO razors are stamped Gillette, Made In USA, REG U.S. Pat. Off. The travel razor has no markings at all, nor does the case.

Any help would be appreciated, Larry

The travel looks to be a merkur travel razor. Came with a small black leather-like pouch with 1 button, the the two peice handle fits inside itself for easy packing?

I have this as a travel razor, it work very well, albiet a little light.

Thats what I thought as the head is very similar to my Progress. It is light.

Looks like a Merkur travel razor, a 40s Superspeed, and a 70s black-handle super adjustable to me.

I think you overpaid for the latter two; don't know the value of the first one.

(Disclaimer: I'm not a razor ID expert.)

By the way, you should post this in the Safety Razor sub-forum; that's where the real experts hang out.:thumbup1:

The little travel razor looks like a Hoffritz to me. Does the metal tin it came in have a hammer tone finish? I don't know much about them but I believe they are a good and sought after razor. All up you've probably done OK.

Just a minor correction, but there are no Superspeeds that are adjustable.

The name is reserved only for non-adjustable TTO razors. The adjustable TTO razors all have other names such as Fatboy, Slim, Super Adjustable, and so forth.

I know the one stamped F 3 is a 1985...between July and September.

So close to seeing my 84 for the first time.

Fair enough i wasn't sure anyway. :)

I also meant to add it'll probably be an early 70's adjustable, still plenty more to learn eh.

The travel razor looks like a Hoffritz I have, except mine has the name inside the case and a whitish paint(?) finish on the knurling like is on the vintage Merkur slants Chessman sells here. (I darn near tried to polish it off thinking it was some sort of corrosion!!) Otherwise, it looks exactly like that one. Maybe a different year? Many of the Merkurs and Hoffritzs look awfully similar, but I have yet to see a Merkur without a name engraved on it somewhere or other. Not to say there aren't any.

I paid less for my Hoffritz, but that doesn't mean anything. I don't know what it's worth. You probably overpaid a bit for the slim, but you got a decent deal on the Super if it's in good shape. So all in all, you did O.K., IMHO.

The Super Speed in the middle should clean up nice with some scrubbing bubbles, a toothbrush and some MAAS metal polish. I don't know about cleaning the other two. You probably over paid a few bucks for the SS, but not enough to lose sleep over. The SS is a great shaver-use it. Here's a link for the SS.

Based on all the great responces, links photos, etc., here is what I determined....

Hoffritz travel razor

85 Long Pole Adjustable

48-50 SS

Probably paid a little too much for some of them, but based on their condition, was worth it for me. Thanks for all the contributions. I knew you guys would come through for me!!!

Please feel free to continue as I am always looking for info and to gain knowledge.
