I received my 2013 Muhle R102 from Connaught Shaving today and gave it a spin with the included Gillette Silver Blue blades. Given the reputation of this DE, I was overly careful and prepped my beard accordingly. The result was probably the most satisfying shave since I started wet-shaving over a year ago, with a near BBS in 2 passes (WTG, XTG, and touchup) with no weepers or irritation. The efficiency of this razor is simply astounding, personally I don't feel a ATG is necessary with this razor.
I never had the chance to try the infamous 2011 version, but the 2013 redesign isn't terrifying like I expected it to be. It feels safer than a vintage Gillette adjustable set to 9 due to the shallow angle, which makes the correct angle super easy to find. The feel of the DE was quite unique as well, I enjoyed the "rake-like" feel. It seems that if you respect this razor and it won't bite!
Based on first impressions, I don't think I'll be using other razors very often!
