Questions about my Super Speed from the NDC Years

From the research that I did before I bought my 48/49 No Date Code (NDC) Super Speed, I think that the general consensus that emerged was, that the NDC's are supposed to be the best.

And then, the story goes - as I remember it - as the years progressed, gradually a drop in quality could be seen by the sixties, when when they redesigned the head cap, to a lower profile.

Is that true, and why would say a late 50's/Early Sixties SS?

I know my razor has NDC, but this page has DC's for every model; mostly Tech's TTO in '48 and '49.

So, was the Gillette Super Speed a completely distinctive and unique line to Gillette line-up separate from the Tech?

Thanks.

The safetyrazors.net page covers both razors and blades. During what the wiki calls the "NDC" years (1930-49), blades had date codes but razors did not.

So then...

Those would be registrations/Serial No's for razor blades during say '48 and '49?

I just find that page confusing. Aside from the Wiki, is there another page with the Serial No's?

Thanks.

Yes, blades had date codes in those years. I don't know if Gillette ever used serial numbers on blades: it doesn't sound very practical.

For example, Achim's photo at http://mr-razor.com/Rasierer/One-Pi... razor set (T2 on blade) beschriftet Logo.jpg dates a UK Aristocrat Jr to 1948. Achim probably looked at contemporary ads, but he also notes that the blade pack had T-2 blades. http://mr-razor.com/Rasierer/One-Piece solid guard bar/1949 (U2) Aristocrat jr.JPG is similar, with U-2 blades placing it in or near 1949. By 1951, http://mr-razor.com/Rasierer/One-Piece solid guard bar/1951 (W1) Super-Speed.JPG has a W-1 code on the razor itself.

If you think this is confusing, don't even try to figure out Schick's manufacturing codes.
