Hey guys, this is a question I have been pondering and thought I'd get the advice of people not so new. Is there some sort of hidden etiquette? What I mean, is lets say someone wants to give away a mug or a bowl or something, is it appropriate to take it if you know what you can pass on is not of similar monetary value? Should we be considerate of value or is it about giving what we can at the time with the thought of sometime giving more, regardless of value because it could help someone out? I've seriously been pondering this all day!

There's no etiquette that I'm aware of. There's no future commitment of any kind. If you can give, give. If you can't, don't. Future giving isn't a requirement of present receiving.

Give what you can when you can because its a nice thing to do and makes you feel good to help someone else.
don't worry about value. If you want to do a PIF then go ahead and do one. regardless of what it is "worth" its still appreciated and helps to foster the spirit of generosity and kindness that permeates this community. and thats what it really comes down to. This isn't just a forum. It is a community. we don't just share information, we form friendships and bonds that go way beyond a hobby or a bunch of enthusiasts.
Doing another person a kindness is never looked down upon here.

Trading & PIFing reside in two different Worlds; Trades should be of similar value and agreed upon by both parties before being finalized. PIFs are a Gift to a Fellow shaver, New or Veteran, from one to another. Quantity & Quality will vary, the main point of a PIF is helping (enabling) another with something they may desire or never thought to try, and are given with No Strings Attached.

Yep this is all about what you can do for another, when you can do so. It's crazy how much generosity is on this site and yet I don't see anyone abusing it(atleast not so far). This generosity does not seem to happen outside this site. And no, not everyone will be able to give but that doesn't seem to be the point. We all enjoy sharing something great with someone who has not tried it and enabling those who are on the fence. With so many awesome products out there it's hard to try everything so a PIF allows us to give that chance to another. IMO it's pretty cool stuff.
I think I'll throw together a nice PIF this weekend and put it up. I've been the recipient of a lot of generosity, it's about time I gave some back
