Question for you lovers of BIG brushes

You know who you are. I'm talking to you 30mm guys.

Yeah, I know, if you're used to a Wee Scot, a 24mm knot seems quite large, but that's not what I'm talking about. I mean really big brushes... Kent 12s, Shavemac XXLs, Stubby 3XLs, Vulfix 32mms etc.

So what do you like about them?

And given that, what is your favorite big brush, and why?

For me, I like the feel of the large, soft brush on my face. I love the way it just whips up such great lather. Being kinda larger (I mean ME:biggrin1:) they fit both my hand and my face better.

As to a favorite, I don't think I have one yet. I like different things about each of them. But I'm interested in your opinions...

Thanks guys!

Ken

I shave my bald head at the same time I shave my face. I like the softer feel of the big brush and it holds ALOT of lather. Most of my big brushes have been made by Don McIvor using the 28mm knot from Golden Nib.

Aside from the fact that large brushes generate a large gob of lather in the knot, I like them because they really hold heat/warmth well. Re-lathering the neck/throat with a large warm brush is just wonderful. The large silvertips give a lush, soft, luxurious touch on the face that is like a soft kiss. :001_wub:

My favorites are the Big Savile Row, the BK12, and a ShaveMac Custom D01 that is 30mm+.

Perhaps 'Antique Hoosier' Mike will stop in --he's quite the fan of large brushes.

I'm a fan of the larger brushes....with good resiliency. Favorites include the Simpson Chubby 2 and 3 in Super, and the Plisson 18 and 20.

I keep telling myself I still have enough hair to not do that (yet). I may be deceiving myself on that though:blushing::biggrin1: our Son in Law went that route about a year ago....

I have one TGN30 Rudy made for me. It's a great brush but it feels much smaller than my other big guys, probably due to the density and shorter loft. I like it a lot. Very soft tips.

I know what you mean about the feel and holding lots of nice warm lather. (not sure about the kiss thing:biggrin1: but it is a nice way to enjoy my shave!)

The BK is kinda funny. It seems too floppy. It doesn't seem quite as soft as some of the others (at the tips). In theory, I don't like it but in reality, I LOVE IT! My big Shavemac is a silvertip, not the D01 - not sure how those compare? No SRs yet. What are your impressions of that guy?

Gotta try a CH3 super one of these days.....

I just recently noticed the warm lather too. The inside of the knot warms up, and stays warm when smaller brushes cool off. My CH2 and Stubby 3 3-band are my biggest brushes, and although the Chubby is a bit bigger, the Stubby feels bigger due to it's bloom and the fact that it has a very flat top. It's a mass of lathery badger on my face. It might be my favorite brush right now.
