question about slants

What exactly is a slant razor and what are it's advantages or dis-advantages?

If most people are right handed I'm guessing the slant accommodates them and would be suicide for a lefty to use one.

Nice guess, but not really.

A slant razor has a purposely distorted head that results in the blade travelling down the face with a very slight slicing action to the whiskers.

This is a gross simplification. There are several principles at work, which I'll wait for the experts to clarify. This is a design that extends back to pre World War II.

Slants put a twist on the blade, so the cutting action is very different from anything a regular razor provides (notice - DIFFERENT, not necessarily BETTER.)

I switch back and forth forth between left and right hands during the shave, and so far haven't lost any noticeable parts of my face!

I draw lots of blood every time I try using my 39C and I'm a lefty. I'd never considered my "corrie-fistedness" being a factor in that. One of these days I swear I'll tame the beast!

+1

Both are spot on!

As a lefty myself as well. I used to get more nicks with my 39C versus 37C, until I learned a simple trick that works great, hold the 39c right on the edge of the handled and let the weight of the razor! Once I did this for my first with the grain and very carefully with atg, sledgehammer slant is just as tame as my hd slant!

HTH,

Try a slant! They are great shavers and not as scary as some people make out. The biggest difficulty using one is to get your sideburns straight! The angle of the blade takes some getting used to.

Gotta agree with this. I've tried the slant, and I don't feel it gives me a shave as good as my HD or my 1904. I know some members rave about the slant, but it doesn't do a thing for me. I guess its true, everyone is different, and what works for one won't always work for another.

I'm currently the holder of the worlds most PIF'd slant. So far it hasn't done too much for me (no horror stories either, though). Look for this item to be available soon again; another week or so and you
ay have a chance to give it a whirl before committing to purchase.

Takes a little more to get use to but in my experience they are wonderful DE razors. Especially with Feather Blades.

I'm using straights more now, but the slant still provides the best shave of all razors I have used. I'm left handed, and have never had a problem with the slant. I wish I had started with it.
