Question about G-Shock with atomic time

Quick question:

I have a G-Shock with multi-band atomic time.

When I travel to another time zone, will the watch automatically adjust to local time? Or will I have to change the home city?

Thanks!

I'm almost sure you have to change the home city, since the atomic signal covers a wide amount of area with multiple time zones. I can't be sure, since currently my only G is non-atomic. I seem to remember having to change my home city when I went to Santa Fe a few years ago with a GW6900.

That's what I thought. Also, if I don't change my home city it might sync the time but convert it to my home time. Thanks for your response.

I have only had mine for less than a month. Just got back from a wedding out west and was "shocked" (sorry) that it did not correct to the time zone. This was one time zone away and I was under the distinct impression it would. I had read reviews that said how great it was because you just set it once and forget about it. I got back and went through the owners manual and will puzzle it out a bit more. I love the watch but was disappointed - I had the wrong impression. Mine is a GW-4000D-1A and since a thread is not a thread without a picture...

The atomic timekeeping system broadcasts UTC over a broad area. The watch has no way of knowing that you have changed time zones without some kind of GPS. It would be convenient if it did change automatically but the atomic timekeeping system is just not there yet. I have a Casio PathFinder and I travel frequently. The only way I have been able to cope with it is by changing my 'Home City'.$photo (6).jpg

I have an older one that has corrected when entering another time zone. Doesn't do it every time, but it has done it. It always runs about five minutes fast for some reason, too, five minutes fast compared to an alarm clock I have that also syncs with the atomic clock.

I was always assuming the change was automatic. If you have to bother changing home city, why not just change the time?

I had mine for 3 years now. These are popularized by rappers like Eminem, Dr Dre, Luda, and all the Jersey Shore members have them too. All of Hollywood gets them, Lady Gaga, P Diddy, Rhianna, Ke$ha, Tom Cruise, Pharrell, They get them custom made in different colors

Mine has a world time function where I can compare my current home city time to another cities time, BUT my 6900 isn't atomic.

Mine has the world time feature too but the alarms run from the 'home' time. I should probably just use the world time and use my phone for alarms.

The point of the 'atomic watch' is that it syncs daily to a radio pulse from the atomic clock, so that it's always 'perfectly' accurate down to the split second.

Presumably, if you just change the time, then when the watch syncs to the radio pulse, it'll think "yowza, I'm off by an hour" and correct back to "hometown time" automatically.
