putting in a new knot

how much does it cost to have someone put a new knot in a brush i buy from an antique shop? is it worth it or is it easier to just buy a new one? thanks guys i really need an upgrade from my boar brush and i dont really wanna spend 100+ on a silver tip if i can rebuild an older one for way cheaper

If you find an old handle you like its something you'll never replicate with a new brush. The process isn't hard with the right tools and only minimally harder and a bit more time consuming if you don't. Read the brush restore thread and you'll get some ideas of how and what you can do.

There's some links in my wiki from my SIG for some of mine and some other useful links. You'll get a great sense of self satisfaction and accomplishment for a brush you restore yourself, again something you won't get if you just buy off the shelf.

Get the idea.......

Go for it.

It is fun to do and you may not be able to do just one.

If you collect 3 or 4 handles, have them made or make them and then order the knots, you will keep shipping to a minimum and have a bit of an assortment.

Have fun!
