Purchasing no-name branded Safety Razors

I am planning on getting a gift for a friend and didn't want to drop to much money. Does anyone know if the no-name branded safety razors on classicshaving.com are quality, or if there is another site that sells no-name branded razors at a decent price? Or should I just get the popular Merkur and be done with it? On another note I am currently using SE razors so have not been in the DE arena for awhile, but have in the past used the Merkur HD razors. I have seen some cheaper models such as the Lord and Feather razors, would these be decent purchases that will last? Thanks for the help.

They are all Parkers from India, infamous for their quality control issues.

The Feather Portable is very highly regarded, and very well built. Of the Lord models, there is the Lord Tech, which is an almost exact clone of the late model 1970's Tech, and the Lord Smart (which has a plastic handle, but a head that greatly resembles a Merkur) either of those would also make for a budget minded choice.

(I have the Lord Smart but with a metal aluminum handle, in that configuration it's an amazing razor regardless of price; it's not sold in the US in that configuration though).

Parker's are junk, and best avoided.

Ugh, I bought one of the razors from there and had a terrible experience with it. The blade exposure is different on each side of the head, resulting in a very aggressive side vs. a very mild side. I sliced my face up good with the aggressive side.

Avoid, imho.

There is a lot of (sometimes not so) cheap junk out there but both Feather and Lord make some decent razors that certainly won't let you down.

Vintage is indeed another option but not everybody will be happy with a used razor for a gift...
