Purchasing a press

I've always thought about getting a french press; however, it always gets put on the backburner. I've decided I am going to give up cokes for then upcoming Lenten season, and there is no better time than now. I have been eyeballing the Bodum Brazil and Young, both in 8 cup. Does anyone else have them, and what are your thoughts? Bodum appears to get pretty good reviews around here, so I am confident with either one. I guess I am more curious if the extra $10 bucks for he Young is worth it. It appears it is mainly for the extra plastic around the glass to protect it from breakage. Thanks in advance for any help.

The Brazil uses plastic, not glass for the carafe. I personally would go for one of the glass versions myself. Beyond that, it is personal preference.

I have a bodum 8 cup and love it. i have nothing to compare it to other than my auto-drip, but it is such a simple device, I guess it either works or it doesn't. I haven't had any issues with breakage (knock on wood). good luck.

I could be mistaken; but I'm pretty certain the Brazil uses borosilicate glass. Which is similar to glass beakers and pyrex.

If it's eight cups just for you, bear in mind that you can't let coffee stand in a press. But then maybe you just have a really big cup.

32oz. will slightly overfill two of our largest coffee cups.

But i have a couple of 32oz. frothing pitchers that I decant into if I'm drinking alone. (coffee or yerba mate, that is)

Why not both? :biggrin1:

32oz might do you in though. 1 large latte cup leaves me a little jittery, and I drink coffee as if they were making it illegal tomorrow.

I'll top 10 double espressos in a day, no problem when working on a blend, or doing an advanced training for someone. (That's like 8 12oz. cups of coffee)

32oz? No big deal. It wasn't always that way, though. I don't recommend it for everyone.

That's about what I drink over the course of a day. It's the high caffeine of the combination the strong coffee and the mate in large quantities that does me in every time. I love that stuff though.

Can anyone recommend a favorite on-line retailer? I checked around town but have not been able to locate that particular model. If I am going to be buying online, I would like to purchase from a recommended vendor. So...who is your favorite?!
