Proraso Soap (& Cream)

Sorry if this has been covered elsewhere, but is Proraso soap and cream essentially the same, for the sort of shave you get?

If so, why do they bother making two very similar products?

I have both, but only used the soap a couple of times so far, and there doesn't seem to be any real difference to me. The soap perhaps is stronger in menthol, but they appear to lather up the same, as I whipped up a bowl of each and compared them.

When I first got the soap, I thought I'd mistakenly bought the cream in a tub, as it's very much like the cream, only dry.

It's still great stuff regardless, but I thought I'd get something different from one or the other.

Any light to shed please?

The soap is a soft soap and the cream is, well...cream.

I lathered up the soap and notice that it still acts more like a soap than a cream.

That's really my question, as I don't have lots of experience with these two as yet. In what way does it act more like a soap?

At the moment they appear to be exactly the same when lathered, and I'm trying to find out if, and where, the differences are.

I also have a bar of Conk and some Taylor's, and not seeing a real difference between any of these products (menthol in the Proraso aside), as I aim to lather them up all the same, and get a good, soft whipped-cream-meringue consistency, which they all seem to do equally well.

They are pretty much identical by ingredient but the green tub soap has a few things put in to firm it up a bit. Performance for me is identical with just a hint more cooling with the soap. I use the tube for travel but prefer to use the soap at home. I have noticed a small travel tub available from some on line vendors that I would consider after the tube is done.

Proraso...good stuff!

I don't think there is much difference performance wise. I think the denser soap lasts longer, is a couple of bucks cheaper, stays cleaner, and the cap doesn't break which makes it the clear winner in my book.
