I haven't tried it yet, but have heard that it uses the EO so may be more like AoS which also does. They only make a balm, but you may want to check it out.
I would liek to find a good AS with that Sandalwood scent. Someone PIF'd me the EJ sandalwood balm which smells very close to it but i find I am not that much of a balm guy
I recently dropped by the local AOS store. Of all the sandalwood ASBs I've smelled, the AOS version smells most like Proraso Red. It's a shame really, Proraso could make a fortune (more of one, at least) by offering an ASB and splash of the Red. It would be good for us too, since it would probably be less than half the price of the AOS balm.
AOS you say? Sounds like I'll be purchasing a bottle ASAP! Kostas you are spot on, I don't know why they don't make these things I would have the professional size of both. I hope they make the red in a soap I'll also have the professional size thank you very much.
Aftershave splash smelling like sandalwood: Santa Maria Novella Sandalo. Outrageously expensive and intoxicating. Slightly mentholated, like all SMN ***.
Aftershave splash smelling like Proraso red: I generally use Boots (bought 1£80 in London). The scent is somewhere between the new Harris Windsor splash and the Proraso red shaving cream. Not bad at all, moisterizing is more than adequate for a splash. No menthol.
Might just be a matter of time since the red is so new. I'm sure if it sells well they will. From the buzz here, it is. I'm not sure if they consider us part if their primary market i.e. non-Italians.
DR Harris Sandalwood is excellent, but it smells quite a bit different from Proraso Red. I'd say that SCS Sandalwood AS splash is your best bet. A great value that smells terrific.
I have never tried the Proraso Sandalwood but I would highly recommend the Trumpers Sandalwood cologne.....it smells great and is one of my favourites.
I am a sandalwood fan but personally I do not like the "sandalwood" of the Proraso, smells like wet cardboard to me. Trumpers or DRH are nice sandalwood, DRH is my favorite but it's a bit woody, but it lasts about all day even though it's an AS. I love TOBS "sandalwood" but not much sandalwood there, just a fantastic barbershop scent. AOS sandalwood is suppose to be one of the best but I have not tried it yet. Caswell Massey makes a wonderful sandalwood ASB, but I'm not sure they make it anymore, I love that balm. I do have the SCS sandalwood, while it is a very, very nice sandalwood, you don't need to use much and it is a little sweet/flowery.
I feel like after reading this thread I have to point out that Proraso red smells like actual sandalwood, not the cologne-y "sandalwood" scents that a lot of the people in this thread are apparently used to. Makes me wonder how they managed to do it, because real sandalwood is very expensive and Proraso is not.
Unfortunately I do not know of any AS or colognes that smell the same as Proraso. Maybe rub some real sandalwood over your face after shaving?
