Proraso as Pre-Shave prep

Hello Gents,

Just finished my morning shave and tried something I have yet to do. I used the Proraso Pre/Post as a Pre-Shave layer, before applying proraso soap over top.
Shaved, and then splashed on some osage rub to finish up my shave. Talk about a mentholated shave lol. Anyone else like using the pre/post as a preshave lotion?
Are there other preshave lotions/oils that are better?

I'm a pretty big fan of the Proraso pre shave cream. If you want the full 'mentholated shave' experience, get some Proraso aftershave splash. The Proraso trifecta will light up your whole neighborhood.

Proraso Pre/Post is much, much better as a Pre, IMO.

In fact I think it is pretty bad as a post.

I like it as a post shave myself. I do add a few drops of glycerin to my shaving cream to slicken the skin. Works great for me.

Stopped by an apothecary today that had the pre/post Proraso sample out, think I dig it. Glad to see it works as intended. Seemed like a great post shave especially in the winter time up Chicago...moisturized skin, but get that tingle feeling on the cold morning walk to the train.

Not only do I use Proraso as my standard prep straight out of the shower I reapply between passes. On the rare occassions I have missed this step I feel the difference.

Typical routine:
step out of shower
apply Proraso pre
make lather & apply
shave pass
rinse face and reapply Proraso and lather
shave pass

etc etc

It does give you a lovely menthol blast when you layer it with Proraso green tub/tube. Face freezing goodness.

Pre shave oils are good, but nothing really beats the menthol like feeling of the Pro-Pre. Especially with Proraso cream or soap.

Proraso Pre/Post massaged on the face and left to sit while I lather, then Proraso cream on top without washing off the Pre/Post. Then cold water, witch hazel, and finally Proraso Splash (sometimes with a little 444 mixed in).

I like proraso pre/post a lot! I was using 3p until i decided to try proraso. 3p is more creamy and will run out faster then the proraso, it also cost more.

I find the preshave treatment of proraso a lot more effective as 3p. 3p will give a great shave but you can actually feel your whiskers move and soft when you rub proraso preshave on.

I DONT know why I didnt use proraso pre/ post before, the shaves improved greatly since using it.

shave den makes a preshave called sub zero...anyone ever use it to compare it to proraso?

Bingo! my thoughts exactly. why did i wait so long!?

i only use it on the first pass. i apply it over a wet face, and lather over it. after shaving for so long without it i can definitely tell the difference. the first time i used it i could tell that the razor was cutting easier/smoother. the second time i used it i made a promise to never shave without it.

The shave seriously is three times better than it was before. I use straights mostly and the difference is astounding, I love it.

Someone here suggested Noxzema, so I tried it ($4 bucks what the heck)
Works great for a pre shave barrier.
I now use it every shave.

I was a preshave oil user until recently I switched to proraso pre white, since I'm not really into menthol. Seems to work nicely so far.

I tried noxzema but all it did was protect the skin from the blade. It didnt soften the hair at all like proraso does.

I've used a non-oily preshave for a while now (first Castle Forbes, and more recently Edwin Jagger). Within the past month I've tried proraso green pre/post cream (as a preshave), which I liked. I've just ordered the white version, which I have a feeling I may prefer.

I like using a preshave, and I'd like to add proraso as a lower cost alternative to the others.
