Very stupid question, but is it possible to adjust the Progress low enough so that it's less aggressive than an HD? If not where do you get a razor still in production that is tamer than an HD, but still very high quality?

The progress gets much less aggressive than the HD if you set it low. When it is set just under the 1 setting it is almost impossible to get a close shave with.

Sounds like my type of razor, I've been at DE shaving for a year. I still prefer an adjustable on 3 or a Tech to my HD. What is the deal with the Mergress? Is it actually a production Merkur razor or is it just a Progress with an after market metal cap?
Its an aftermarket adjustment knob. You can buy a whole razor made up like that or just the cap to fit an existing razor you might have. Bobs razor works also sells similar aftermarket adjustment knobs.

I would easily say that my Progress is less aggresive than my HD on the first three settings.
