Problem with Ming Shui TTO

A couple of years ago I bought my Dad a Ming Shui TTO. He has been very happy with it but I was around this evening when he was changing the blade and he said he has to use pliers to loosen the knob. True enough the thing seemed jammed solid. Any ideas what might have caused this? I've never experienced this with my own Ming Shui.

Cheers

Could it be corrosion on the shaft mechanism? Try placing several drops of baby oil or mineral oil at the top of the shaft in the head and letting it soak down. A liberal dose might do the trick.

Has he been cleaning it regularly? It might just be gummed up with soap residue. Try the old "soak in hot water followed by Scrubbing Bubbles (or Euro equivalent)" trick

My brother's razor (wei shi) suffers from a similar problem, a couple of drops of oil down the shaft and just above the knob (then worked in by twisting) will fix the problem.
