Preshave with olive oil

Today I wanted to try olive oil as preshave. I have tried oils which are specially made for preshaving, but they did not work.
Olive oil is pretty thick. I let it stay for 2 minutes, not washing it off. After 2 minutes I put proraso cream as lather on.
The lather is much thicker but not very foamy, it is quite solid.
I used a used Feather blade (5 times used). And I was suprised! The Feather blade did glide off like it was my first Feather!
Even after the shave my beard felt very soft, no irritation, no pain (although I had nicks)

It was my best preshave ever....I recommend it....

I have thought about trying this, but olive oil is so thick. I worry that any of the residual left over might clog my pores and cause a break out.

There is a neat little YouTube video about shaving with olive oil ... although the model in the vid is a woman, there's no reason why the same principles won't work for a man.

Another little tip they give is to store your razor in the left-over oil, to keep it clean and ready for the next use. Once you get the razor loaded with oil, that might be all the oil you need, without having to pre-lube your beard each time.

If you find that the oil is too thick when you apply it as a pre-shave, try instead using it as an additive to the lather.

Generally, I think that Grapeseed Oil is the preferred primary ingredient in a PSO ... you might want to give that a try as well. Its also a little thinner viscosity that the Olive Oil.

I always use Sweet Almonds Oil, the bottle says "softener and emolient".

It always help me to glide the edge of the razor, and make the difference between have a good shave or a one with, nicks, cuts and blood in the adams apple.

I had a great discussion with a Pizza house owner. Seems there are three grades of Olive oil, Extra Virgin, Plain Olive Oil, and the stuff he uses to put a sheen in sauces without the cost. The lowest grade is thinner. I don't know which would be best for shaving, the hi-test probably has more nutrients but the cheaper one is thinner and less expensive, and your not eating it. I imagine you could thin the oil with something. I know that warm olive oil feels nice. I used some of my wife's Queen Helene Cholesterol Hot Oil Treatment and it feels nice on the skin after you heat it up, so I was thinking of trying some like the olive. It's much thinner. http://www.queenhelene.com/haircare_product_detail.php?id=15

They have some other nice stuff too

. . .if your not one of those guys who has to wait until they market a MEN's ONLY version of the same exact thing first. Try buying pads for the misses.

Somewhere there is a thread about an oil cleansing routine that reduces acne and promotes facial skin health. You might try searching for it.

Supposedly castor oil works best for this. I have not tried this on its own. I use AOS Pre-Shave oil and I find it does give a smoother shave and my skin is more moisturized after.

Vitamin E oil! It's great for your skin regardless of whether or not you shave with it! Give it a try! I've been using it as a pre shave for a couple of years, no skin problem, no razor clogging!

Palma Christy Castor Oil IS tha BEST you can find. You may have to go to a healthfood store or order online.

Google it - it's healing properties are impressive.
